I have the stock bfg rugged trail tires on now. Size 265/65/17...the rim measures 17x8 if i remember right. Ive read that 31 will fit fine. My main concern is how wide can I go on this rim? Can I go past 265? I really want the tire to give the truck a wider stance. Any help would be great.

The rim will not be the limiting factor on the width of the tire in our case, people are running anything up to 13.5" wide tires on stock rims. The problem you will run into is rubbing the fenders/mudflaps and the passenger side front brake-line shield.
If you want to install a body lift, you can run 33x12.5's though.

Down the road I would like to do a 3"suspension lift...however right now funds on going in that direction. What do you think I could run Width wise on the stock and not rub? 285?

I'd go for a 275/65 R17 which should be a nice size for those rims.

Alright, Im looking at the nitto terra or maybe kuhmo. I wouldnt mind going a touch taller, like around a 275/70/17. This should put me around a 31" tire? What size are your tires jason?

Ah ok, they looked big, I plan on taking my rear sway bar off today so I can get some flex also

275/65 r17 is 31" tire
275/70 r17 is 32" tire.

Since you are planning on going 33" in the future, why not go BL now? You could save big time!

I agree with Soccerbrace on this one. Just go ahead and spring for the BL if you want to go bigger on your tires. I'm bone-stock running 270's and I get a light rub when I have the wheels cut.
