Hello all. Hope this message finds you all doing well after the Thanksgiving Holiday (for us Americans).

Anyway, I currently autocross my other Nissan (lightly modified 04.5 350Z) and am planning to get a bit more serious in terms of tracking my car. As such, it's probably going to make my Z more than a bit less streetable in addition to me not wanting to wear out $250 a piece tires just getting to an event. So I've been considering a tow vehicle that I could use as a new daily driver...and the Xterra drew my attention. I actually went and test drove an 07 S model yesterday and it was pretty nice (though WAY different than driving my Z). I figured I ought to do my due diligence and go looking on the internet to see what I'm thinking about getting into.

Really though, I have one major concern. My Z weighs in at 3200 lbs. In doing a small amount of research I've found that I could expect a open car hauler to weigh in at about 1000-1500 lbs. Assuming worst case, that's 4700 lbs just in the car and trailer. Now, given that the X has a towing capacity (according to Nissan) of 5000 lbs, that gets me pretty dern close to that limit. But....given what I do, I may have tools, a floor jack and maybe even another set of wheels and tires along for the right. Would I be able to get away hauling around a bunch of stuff in the back end of the X while towing around 4700 lbs? (Yes..assuming a trailer with brakes)

Assuming that it would even be a good idea to try this, I'm aware that I'd need a tranny cooler as my first mod to the truck.

Anyway, does this sound like something worth pursuing an Xterra for or should I be looking at a Pathfinder?

BTW...here's a shot of my car in action:

nice car and welcome to to the club..... i would think it would be alright as long as the trailer has brakes so you arnt putting the added strain on the x.... you will proab be geting reall bad gas mileage.... in that case you might wanna persue a titan or a armadadue to the bigger motor.... good luck.....

Welcome! I also used to race SCCA (SoloII Auto-X) in a modded 2002 WRX.

I would think you'd be better served by a Nismo Frontier pickup. The X probably wouldn't be the best tow rig at the weight of your car.

That's what I'm starting to see, Anthony. Why'd you stop running SOLO 2? Move up in the world? lol

I was kinda hoping I'd be able to get away with using an Xterra. I'm not a big truck guy....though I could live with one of the "smaller" SUVs. Most definitely don't want anything with a V8.

You should check out the Frontier (try our sister site at http://www.clubfrontier.org) I like them since I'm also not a fan of fullsize trucks.

I sold my WRX when I bought my house. I then got the Xterra as a daily driver, but couldn't leave it stock...

Here's the WRX:

That's a good looking WRX. Lot of guys run those things in my local region. They make for pretty good AutoX cars. If you miss Solo II...you could always throw some R Comps on the X and take it for a spin. We've got a guy that brings his Chevy Silverado (runs ESP I believe) out and runs it...and I've even seen a Dodge Dakota out there a few times. :)

I'll take a look over at the Frontier forum. Guess that's the direction I'll need to go in. Thanks for pointing me along.
