So I have finally decided to make one of these since it appears to be the tradition here :P

Anyways here's what Ive got:
2000 Nissan Xterra SE RED (not maroon, R-E-D) and it's 2WD.

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Xterra/9024_1037994368268_1777795857_75908_7091718_n.jpg

My first Mod was a new sound system. Dad wouldnt let me get subs :(
But, I put in a Sony Xplod stereo reciever with 2 Kicker 6" competition speakers (3 channel with integrated tweeters) in the front and 2 Kicker 4channel 6x9 competition speakers with dual integrated tweeters in the rear. Pushing around 250-300 watts.
I only have this picture at the moment. My girlfriend took it lol

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Xterra/xplod.jpg

The next mod came this past summer a few months after my sound system.
It's a Insys USA Cold Air Intake, and from the few basic tests I've done with it, it performs just as well as my friends K&N.
(couldnt burnout before the CAI, now I can hold a burn out at a dead stop without holding the brakes for about 6 seconds. I dont recommend it)
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Xterra/46108_1181431434105_1777795857_359977_7090749_n.jp g

Finally a few weeks ago I gave her a good wash (took me a few rounds) and used some Back To Black on the plastic trim to bring back its color.

before (you can see how faded everything is, especially on the rear panel):
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Xterra/fade.jpg

After Back To Black:
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Xterra/66269_137047159675924_100001119225754_188721_29177 47_n.jpg

Thats as far as I have gotten right now.

I've also removed the one step rail (yes, one. the two very ditzy and very spoiled teen girls/brats "lost" the onther one).
I also removed the mudflaps. They annoyed me anyways.

Currently I am looking at putting a 2" BL on her with 32" TreadWright Guard Dog mud tires.
Im thinking of doing a safari bar/bull bar. Not a shrockworks (not yet at least!) as that is WAY too expensive. But something like Xterramike had.

The Guard Dog tires and 2" BL should come in around Christmas time ;)

looks good man, it'd prob be easier just to paint the plastics, just throwing that out there.

Already talked to dad about it (only a few more months and I'll be outta here. THEN I really get to do what I want with my X ;))

But he is very wary of me using any sort of paint on the truck. Even if I take the crap off and paint it.
He wont even let me black out the wheels D:

for now at least ;)

Oh I've been doing plenty of it!
he usually says something along the lines of the cliche "would you follow your friends off a cliff too?" or the "they are probably experienced professionals" speech.

I'll probably hook up F.U. autos and do it without telling him. he'll get over it. after all thats what I did with my cold air intake and my stereo xD

LOL same here.
As long as there isnt anything TOO "complicated" he will be fine. And as long as it isnt too expensive. Being a student in my schools engineering academy going into an engineering college, I think i can manage to figure out quite a few DIY's that will be cheep.
Im thinking about ordering another front right qarter panel and getting a bunch of PVC and PVC concrete to make a snorkel.
I'll get a spare quarter panel as I dont want to mess up one cutting it and be stuck with a messed up front end.

But i havent decided if i want to do it or not

theres a fairly simple diy snorkel that Steeze did a write up on. Did it for like 35 bucks, but you have to trim your fender a little bit

exactly what Im going to do :P
Im going to buy a new quarter panel just so I will have a margin for error and wont mess up the bodywork.

And I will have to build a new airbox (more of an airtube or something) out of PVC to go around the filter thats on there as it is a cold air intake.

see my dad is like u might have the money for the parts you want to put on but then what happens if u F*** up the truck you dont have the money to fix it.

Plus my parents hold the insurance over my head and still wont let it die that they paid for half the car.

Need less to say since i got the car i paid for almost everything including gas since june. They gave me a "free ride" to work on grades for the first cupple months.

Plus my mom says its her car under her name but i wonder who put the last 5000 miles on it this past year....hmmm who can that be

Plus im going for technology education .... im learnin before i get to school about the automotive

PLus now my dad is starting to comeout and tell about his old car experences and what he used to do to them

ok im done noe lol

It pops right off..

Paint that.. it will show them that your not going to mess any thing up...

Yea my dad was the same way when I had "his" Durango but some chick decided to ram into me at a 4 way stop so Chloe (my X) is my X haha I know what your going through right now bud its frustrating but if you do something like the plastic on top of the bumper something small that can be easily turned back to stock he might give you the good to go number who knows be patient it'll all work out

XSE256
11-21-2010, 07:59 PM
ok so its been a while since Ive posted pics.
Basically Ive got some new stuff.

Aries bullbar.. yeah I know "get a shrock" but I dont have ~$700 haha
This one will work.

I gotta pirate flag. Dunno why, just looked cool.

Rear towhook. It is currently bolted to the chassis. Unfortunately only 1 bolt would fit, but Im going to weld it the rest of the way, if I dont get a hitch for christmas.

Oh, and I got my new HID lights up. (daytime picture doesnt show them mounted. will get one when it lightens up)
2 Navigator Baja's. 100 watts I think. they are two 4' by 6 inch bricks haha and for the price they do really well.
Glass lens. light diffuser cage. stone guards. very durable too.
and DBR, please. please, please, for the love of all things good and wonderful do not inquire as to how exactly I put them up there...

Haha thats what Im thinking about doing.

I may have an opening to get a shrock front bumper. My friend says he may have found a salvaged X with one, and there are a few other leads Im looking into.

If not Ill hit up 4x4 parts or concept customs and get a prerunner bumper.

gunna get a pair of hella's soon too.

And in a month is christmas!!!!!
and hopefully a lift, new tires, and a cb!

keeping my fingers crossed.

just read through this thread, you and i and the other red x (sorry i didnt look at your name) are all in the exact same boat. my dad doesnt like me doing anything with my X. i was beyond surprised when the other day, we went to a hardware store so he could pick up some stuff for the house, i noticed some flat black krylon paint-in-a-can, i told him i wanted to get one or two of those to paint my plastics, he grabbed a bottle and said, "I'll buy ya one." i was speechless for 10 minutes...

tbh what got me to this thread was your profile pic. i saw the exo and was like.... I want one!!!! saw yours was a 2wd and i was like YES! i hope you get one now. where are you going to school for your engineering? i plan on auburn or FSU in a year or two...

2WD IN THA HOUSE!!!
or the trail (after pulling out his friend's Ford...)

Im just going to leave this here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrt6K1kq4LY&feature=related

My dad is slowly coming around.

I am convincing him to get some rancho shocks, stuff for a PML, and 32" tires.
the thing is they have to be CHEAP. He stills says it is technically his car as he owns it, therefore it still must be in reasonable condition for the family to use.

So moderately large tires and a PML arent too bad.
Im going for treadwrights, which from my research, seem to have amazing performance. I am getting the guard dogs.
His theory is he is not paying out the ass for expensive mud tires that wear out in a year and are not practical for normal use.
So inexpensive retreads are okay with him. plus treadwright tires are know to last forever

He has been gone on business for the past few weeks, so the rear towhook, mudflap removal, step rail removal, lights, cold air intake, and bullbar were done as a "surprise".

I have also found a place that will mount and balance tires for cheap, as well as an alignment.
His response last night was "Yeah that place alawys has the best reviews and they do some really good business, so we'll take your new tires up to them here in the next month".
Ergo, I have new tires as a christmas present.

Oh, and dbr. I talked to him about painting my wheels and plastics. I showed him the DIY threads and he is very interested. He loves the way they turned out, and he said it's a great idea.
O this christmas I plan to have a PML, 32" MTs, a steez-ratt bumper job, and blacked out rims and plastics.

already, youve convinced your dad of more than i ever could...

XSE256
12-01-2010, 03:48 PM
already, youve convinced your dad of more than i ever could...

Well, the catch is he refuses to pay for anything unless it is "standard maintenance price".
So, if I wanted some superswamper tsl boggers I would pay for every cent of the tire cost and shop install cost.

The reason I can get this stuff for christmas is because it is cheap, the tires are $80 a piece, the shocks are about the same as OEM replacements, and it's called a poor mans lift for a reason (its only $60!). Plus it is the christmas of my senior year, and my little sister absolutely refuses to drive the xterra so they are ok to get rid of it.

Plus, I wrecked my old maxima :'(
They got the Xterra as a heap of junk for $3000 (it really was). It was brought back to what it should be. However if it gets wrecked or messed up in anyway (unless it's something that would normally happen, like an old alternator failing) then Im outta luck. If I want a car, I'll have to get my own and pay the insurance if the X gets screwed up.

So most of the mods Im doing are just enough to get some better offroad performance. Granted with no job and a swamped school year my wheeling will be limited. Alot of my mods are for looks. My dad thinks the same way.
However, I dont believe in flashy imagery and talking without walking, so it'll have some increased off road abilities ;)

Hell, It can already get through more than the other guy's trucks at my school.
Of course they all buy heavy as hell American trucks with massive body lifts and larger than necessary tires and think they have "wun baydayss truhck mayn, let's git sum muhddd".

I love seeing guys whose body;s are 6 inches taller than their frames. You never have to worry about one getting stuck beside you in traffic, you can see perfectly in between the body-frame gap.

Saw mom wrapping some boxes today.
They were long and slim and one said "ranch-". I couldnt read the whole word due to wrapping paper coverage but I think I know what it is ;)

She had another, smaller box and told me to put it under the tree.
It was pretty heavy and the stuff inside it was mettalic (It clinked a few times).
Sounds Like Ive got some new shocks and shackles!
Now to see if I can find where they hid the tires...

One thing I would love to have is a GPS about as badly as I want a rear diff locker.

So it looks like you'll get stuck, but never be lost.
I'll sometimes get stuck, but always be lost.

Maybe we should wheel as a pair to balance it out lol

You should look into the locker LockRight is making for the H233B axles for the 1st gen Xterra/Frontier trucks.

MY TIRES ARE SHIPPING OUT TOMORROW!

Treadwright is sending me some Guard Dogs on Bridgestone Dueler M/T (or A/T, couldnt understand them, but the only difference in the two is the tread, their carcasses are the exact same) carcasses. Apparently they were practically new too. Some tire place dropped off a bunch of tires that were in amazing condition and treadwright capped em up. 4 are on the way, the 5th one will be coming in soon after.

:D

Im waiting to do my pml when I get my new tires. Im currently running some ANCIENT Uniroyal Laredos in the rear, and a really POS cooper walmart A/T, and a spare that has been attached to my rear end for the past 10 years and has a burn patch on it from the exhaust.

Plus I'll need an alignment, so I figure It's best to wait on my new 32"s :P

I painted the front of my roofrack windguard. Painted it matte black, and then painted the Nissan logo red. The black dried well, it's some enammel coating my dad had.
The red... not so much... it was humid out.
It's been about 20 degrees average down here in alabama this winter, but it was up to about 70 because of the humidity the past few days.
(it looks good at a distance).
I also painted my shackles red and dried them with a space heater.

Pics tomorrow!

Oh, and dave, I tried paying my respects to turk by attempting to paint my center console red to match my X (as yours was white to match turk's color..)
I should have used Krylon. the spray paint I used sucked and the humidity didnt help, so i repainted it black and now it looks...bad (well, decent since the lighting wont really hit it's bad spot..)
Gunna order another one and paint it red (properly...)

Also got my new treadwright guard dog's mounted, and got my cragar soft 8's put on this morning at around 8:00.
then i woke up my friend and spent the whole day wheelin all over harvest, alabama

haha well thank you N4L :P

Anyways,
Im counting out my budget here and it looks like I'll be getting a Shrock front bumper soon :D
Im gunna do it via layaway.
I pay $100 down payment, they make it and hold it. They'll hold it up to 6 months, in that time I must pay (incrementally or whatever I want to) money until I've basically accumulated the same as the retail price. Its the same thing as buying on credit, except they keep the bumper untill Ive paid all the money :P
I like the idea. Since it's shrock and they take a while to build everything anyways, I figure paying incrementally keeps me fairly low budget, and lets them take their time.
By the time I've paid up fully, they should be finishing it.
Just to convince dad...

looks nice!
Sad you had to see it go :(
Is that a PMl or a BL?

I forgot to update:
this past weekend marked a week after I put my PML and tires on.
When I did the PML and put the tires on I was measuring about 6.5 inches of clearance (up front) from the TOP of the tire to the BOTTOM edge of the fender flare/wheel well,

WELL, after coming home from an evening with friends everything was OK.
Next saturday I came outside to go back to my friends house (and then work) AND MY X WAS LOPSIDED!
I knew my torsion bars would settle (6.5 inches of wheel well clearance is high for a pml...) but in this case the front right side settled .5 of an inch of wheel well clearance, AND THE LEFT SIDE SETTLED TO ABOUT 1.7 INCHES OF WHEEL WELL CLEARANCE.
I was pissed because now it looked like I had it jacked up on one side (as if I were changing a tire...) and I had to drive it like that as I had no time to fix it.
The left side had been squeaking REALLY badly over the past week. I was going to post a quesstion about it on here, but I guess I figured out early what it was....

Anyways. On sunday I jacked up the X and re did by tbar crank. I brought the sunken left side up, and the right side down a bit, now I have ~5.2-5.5 inches of wheel well clearance on each side, so its pretty level and still high up there. Im measuring 1/4th of an inch off the bumpstops (I know...kinda reckless but I dont wheel it THAT hard, its a 2wd with open diffs come on now...). However despite the very short bumpstop gap, my X was able to align perfectly (with steel cragars...).

With a stock configuration I was always having to turn my steering wheel at least 1/8th of a turn to the left on a perfectly flat and level road when I had a "perfect" alignment done (3 alignments at 3 different shops, still had the horrid pull) and that worked pure destruction on my old tires.

With the high PML/low bumpstop clearance, steelies, oversized tires, and new shocks, my X has the smoothest, most stable, best aligned ride Ive ever felt in a truck. I love it.
It also feels a bit faster too, dunno why.
However, whatever I did with the tbars did wonders on the alignment, and will hopefully cause the tires to last along time.

Lets just hope my torsion bars dont decide to sink again after another week...
So far no squeaking but Im super paranoid about everything. Sometimes its good, other times you get laughed at for pulling your X out in the middle of th school parking lot 4 minutes before you have to walk accross the largest high school in Alabama to get to your class on the other side just to look at how awesome the X looks/what is wrong with it you need to fix/what you could do to it next to make it look more awesome.
:wink-big:

Anyways, apologies on the novel I just wrote haha, had a lot of stuff to update.
Also on the PML: I tried torquing down the lock nuts on the tbar adjuster bolts as hard as I could. So far no squeaking or giving, but if anyone knows something I could do to ensure I dont have my suspension re-settle on me like that, or cause anymore issues that would be great. So far brute force is what I've resorted to. If it happens again I will do a full re-index, which I have a hunch is what some of you may recommend BUT if there is anything else, that would be awesome too haha.

when i cranked my tbars, i had a friend help me (my borother in law actually). he had done them before, and once we finished, we got on his road (it was an abandoned dirt road) and we drove the X backwards up to about 20-25 mph, then slammed on the brakes. he informed me this let the tbars pop into place once the weight lifted a little (we did the tbar crank on the ground with no lifting of my X, also helped me get the right height i wanted without having to do much measuring, we eyeballed it). so far, after several months, my suspension has remained completely intact with how it was the day we did the lift.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your X, but I will share my Xperience. I also raised mine until there was 1/4" upper bumpstop gap. I got it aligned and thought nothing of it. Then I noticed cupping on the front tires, because they weren't allowed enough room to downtravel. The result was the front tires bouncing on the bumpstops when hitting pretty small, and also bigger obviously, dips in the road. It can also cause excessive wear on your steering components. Just wanted to share, as I wholeheartedly regret going past 1/2" bumpstop gap (I've since lowered, realigned, rotated tires, etc.). Also repacked my wheel bearings, but can't say whether it was because of the cranking or not.

Whether you have 2wd or 4wd, locked or open diffs, has nothing to do with your steering system components as far as PMLs go.

As far as re-indexing goes, you only need to do that if you run out of adjustment before you reach your desired ride height, ASSUMING you have upper bumpstop gap to spare.

what is the BS on those cragers?

the backspacing is 4" i believe, maybe 4.5"
The tires stick out from the wheel wells about 1/2 an inch. It looks really good.
they are steel wheels though, so if they get scratched you need to repaint them or youll have rust and they are HEAVY. at least 50 pounds each.
In my case I like that, with heavy wheels and tires ill have a lower center of gravity, and the wheel weight helps force the wheels onto the ground when im wheeling, so far with open diffs in slick alabama clay Ive had very little wheel spin

i think it looks good, for a cell phone picture :D
the trimming I did helped, untill i hit a bump, then the front would rub.
so i removed the bumper. it sorta helped, but whenever I hit a really big bump it still rubs, but on the back of the wheel well on the fender, which i cant do anything about really...
EXCEPT LIFT HER HIGHER :D

I think If I didnt go with the cragars and 4" backspacing I wouldnt have the problem, but thats only on huge bumps, not even speed bumps actually.
really only when I decide to go up the 4 foot tall, 70 degree incline the spaerates my driveway from my neighbors, which is everytime i drive now :D
what a ford 4x4 slips on, I climb up with no wheel spin.
Im loving it.

I'm thinking about getting a set of those tires. How are they on noise and ride?

I must give out the disclaimer that they are Treadwright retread tires :D

BUT

That said they are really good!

The tread is the old MTR tread pattern, except it is a bit narrower in between the lugs, but that hasnt bothered me.
They ride very smoothly.
With any mud tire at low speeds it will feel bumpy due to the spacing between the lugs, however with these there is only a little vibration at 5-10 mph, and its really only noticeable on very smooth flat surfaces. I havent had a problem.

As far ass noise, they dont have the traditional cabin crushing BWAAAAAAAAAAAAH you would get on Mickey Thompson Baja's for example.
They have a whine to them. They arent loud but you can hear them. I would compare the tire noise to the sound you hear going over an interstate bridge.

you wont be dissapointed
BUT
do not buy the Kedge Grip tires.

they sound nice and all, but they are mamde with crushed glass an walnut shells. the theory is that the tires have a gritty surface wear to help with snow.
dont get me wrong it does help tremendously, however they wear FAST.
as in they will be gone in 6 months if you use them as DD tires.
they are treadwrights version of a snow tire. the work magnificently in snow, but if you dont get alot of snow (like down here) then dont get them as they will wear too fast.

but the Kedge Grip is still uner $100 a tire for 32"s :D

great tires all around and you CANNOT tellt hey are reatreads! they look brand new!
the rubber compound looks really weird when you look at it up close, but it is a really solid piece of work treadwright made

note to everyone:
if you are going to do a lift and put 32" tires on Cragar Soft 8's just go ahead and start grinding your fender near the back of the tire (where the mudflaps are attached) or just do a 3" lift, or just dont get the cragars.

nice rims, but the backspacing has been making my front right tire rub and has worn of a little bit of tread. Thankfully its not bad , but it annoys me.

im ordering a bumper from Tactical Armor Group this weekend.
Im getting the wincher bumper with a lightbar (hopefully I'll be able to order it so they build the lightbar in a prerunner-esque style)

Please dont rail on me for not going shrock or at least ARB.
Personally I cant justify paying ~$800 in total for a bumper like that. If it was some super nice custom job yeah. Granted I understand how good shrock products are, but now that I've seen the TAG bumpers I prefer these. They are much cheaper, than shrock, both companies use 3/16th inch thick steel, both can accompany the same load rating as far as winches go, both are built with very similar production processes, and as fas as appearance I have seen some just really really outstanding bumpers from TAG. Plus I have had excellent customer service from them. Email correspondance has been literally timed by intervals of a couple of hours (not days) and they are some really friendly people.
Plus they offer so many more options up front than shrock, all of which are still cheaper unless you really load it up.
Personally I dont see much of a differenace, besides I think the TAG bumper looks a bit beefier than the shrock :D more tank-like.

Also they are 3 hours away from me and the shipping time is significantly faster than shrock time. If all else fails and I REALLY want it ASAP, I can pay 7% georgia sales tax and pick it up if need be.

should be ordered saturday :D

then after that: an idler arm brace!

I cleaned the X a bit before I did this, but Im going to REALLY clean it soon and then redo the heat treatment

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/IMG_4932.jpg

Oh, and yesterday I got sick of the my tires rubbing my fenders and wheel well plastic, so I ripped the plastic out (and my intake baffle) and then I went to my friends house.
He owns an Omni DualSaw with counter rotating blades. Equipped on his saw are 2 diamond tipped blades.
After about 5 minutes, here is the result:
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/IMG_4933.jpg
One part at the top is a little rough, but for a meal at mcdonalds I think he did a pretty good job. I touched it up with aztec red rustoleum paint so it wont rust.
Honestly its hard to tell where the spray paint ends and the factory paint begins. The other side has a much cleaner cut, but once again Im feeling lazy today lol.

Anyways, only a few more days and I'll be ordering my bumper from Tactical ARmor Group!
Ive decided to get the normal "Wincher" style with a prerunner grill guard.

Man that sucks, where are they located? You could always go pick it up...I'm digging the TAG bumpers.

Its $585 for the whole bumper, $160 for shipping :/ Too much for the moment.
The price for the bumper is great honestly.
I cant justify paying $850+ for a bumper. There is no way I can justify that.
Hell I could go to a steel yard in Decatur and get some scrap, then take it to my friends bike shop and make a bumper. It wouldnt be the nicest looking rig, but it would work.
For a professionally made bumper, I'd say TAG is it. Problem is shipping, which will only go up :(

They are 4 hours away, but as a 17 year old senior in highschool working minimum wage I cant really afford to pick it up :(

Anyways,
next week I'll be painting my plastics :)
going flat black!

I used Home Depot "Quick Color" Spray Enamel for Plastics
its like $1 per can.
I used this stuff to re-color my valance for the roofrack (the plastic piece at the front above the windshield that says "Xterra" on it) and it has held up perfectly for about 4 months now, so I'll be doing my other plastics as such.

here is the result from testing it on one of my front fender plastics I took off after my pml
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l489/dbizz2010/Mobile%20Uploads/0406111626.jpg

The result is actually really good after extremely light coats of paint.
The first coat blacked it out completely, but 2 more coats darkened and toned it better, and made it a stronger finish I think

Looks good....what did you end up using?

I did a 3 coat deal with 2 different spray paints.

for the first 2 coats I used Quick Color flat black plastic enamel. Its tough paint, but its really rough (does great as a paint or primer) then I finished up with some much higher quality and much more rugged Rustoleum all weather paint to hold everything down and have a good finish.

I had a really bad moment when painting the grill as I had just washed everything and some water was still left in the grill section (which caused a few mistakes) but I got it cleaned up.
after the first coat tho I found out just how scratched my grill is :/ but they went away for the most part after the 2nd and 3rd coat. It looks really good, Im happy about the outcome.

no more back to black or mismatched fenders!

I went with one of the higher end Sony Xplod Stereo's (with the ipod stuf and satellight radio capable, HD radio capable, with the auxilary ports and everything :P got it for cheap off amazon!)

then I went with some Kicker KS competition and Kicker DS competition speakers

The Xplod is sick. The kickers are nice too, you just have to have the right sound. Everything sounds amazing with them, but only certain stuff sounds *perfect* if you know what I mean. They are just so sensitive to tuning. But they are loud and the 4 channel 6x9s sound AMAZING when they pump some heavy bass into the cargo area of my X :D

well, it's been a week since I've installed them, but I got some subs!

I have 2 Kicker Comp 10" subs, a insanely huge OBCON sealed dual box with an amp rack and cooling fan (takes up the whole truck, theres about 4 incheas of clearance from the front of the box to the hatch), a Pyramid Arctic amp, and the full Boss audio wiring kit.

it was an easy install, took me 45 minutes (I have learned you must be EXTREMELY meticulous when working with electrical equipment)

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248586_1391925536326_1777795857_691447_3323025_n.j pg

I've got pictures of them in the truck installed, but its late and im lazy, so theyll be here tomorrow.

Anyways, the subs hit HARD. Harder than any other 10"s ive heard.
They arent just trunk rattlers, they rattle my rear wiper blade at half volume!

I cant even see out the side mirrors at that volume due to the fact they vibrate the truck so hard (I have a really funny comment about girls riding in my X now, but Im not sure the appropriateness of it for the forums xD)

The advantage of them is they keep me up on those late night drives. It was helpful when Drake and I rode home from the 1st day of NXM. He led the way down Hwy 231. For those of you that dont know, when 231 passes through southern Tennessee its nothing but twisty mountain roads with little or no guardrail. Pair that with the fact its at night, im sleepy, ive never driven this part of 231 before in my life, and Drake is driving his Xterra (thats sitting on 33's with a PML and 3 inch BL) like he's the star in a Fast & Furious movie, staying alert was a pretty important thing to say the least (remember I also had brakes with nothing left on the pads)

speaking of my brakes,
they exploded while on top of a mountain at NXM. the inside pad on the front right brake exploded, so the pistons pushed into the rotor, damaging it and making me lose my brake fluid.

So this is what myself, Tommyboy, RacerXXL, drbandkgb, and Xterror04 did all afternoon. Brake work and hauling me to advanced a few times to get parts.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/251189_1404332686497_1777795857_705340_2054321_n.j pg

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=705341&id=1777795857

here is the caliper, you can see how the pistons were ground down onto the rotor
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/249757_1404591772974_1777795857_705564_3211983_n.j pg

and here are my old pads:

you can see how these were basically nothing more than metal slats ready to explode like the one already had, this one has chunks that came out of it already, and was most likely going to blow just like the other one.

well, to put it this way, I have a friend with 2 Dual 12"s in the box with the neon glow.

my 10"s destroy them.

I have another friend who runs 2 set ups: 3 10" MTX Road Thunder subs, out of a 2000 watt amp, or he runs one Kicker 12" CVR on the same amp.

My 10"s destroy them both. The one CVR is a close competition to my Comps, but not quite.

It doesnt quite have the articulation between bass frequencies that my 10"s have. Granted Im running mine at their optimal rms/peak amperage in a friggin steamer trunk of a box, and they are wired to 2 olms (his CVR is wired striahgt to the amp, so its 4 olms, and his 3 Road thunders are all in series, so that means his olm rating is around 6 olms). Granted, he let a shop do his install (he isnt very good with electronics...) but he does know how to change out subs haha. I plan on giving him a lesson in subwoofer install sometime lol

anyways, here they are:
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248527_1405122266236_1777795857_705976_923165_n.jp g

the amp:
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/247932_1405122386239_1777795857_705977_753260_n.jp g

cooling fan in the box:
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/247467_1405122546243_1777795857_705978_4438788_n.j pg

and the head unit
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/247467_1405122146233_1777795857_705975_5177853_n.j pg

In fact, I went out and was cleaning the trash outta my X and cranked the tunes and nothing happened with the subs! no bass!

I found that somehow my ground connection came loose AND my power wire to the amp. So I connected them with a better set of connectors and everything was good to go, except the bass sucked at full power.

I re-did the ground connection at a new spot, sanded everything for about 10 minutes to make sure it was pure metal to metal, then hooked everything up. I had to re-tune all my speakers and subs through the head unit and the amp.
It sucked.
But lesson learned: make sure all the connections are good, and make sure everything is tied down properly!

I also went to advanced and picked up some new front rotors!
Now I wont have to worry about old, worn out, and ripped up rotors messing me up.

That one retails at $50, but I got it for $20 brand new at a fire sale. I bought all my junk off of a firesale my friend was doing for his uncle. Spent maybe $40 for a CB, swr meter, an antenna, and a cable. The antenna is a cheapo, so I have a Firestik Firefly on the way.

I dont have the antenna yet. It's a 4' tall Firestik Firefly with a door jam mounting bracket and spring. It *should* be here tomorrow, but we'll see.

nicely done! Looks similar in size to one I just put in (took a lot of plastic cutting and had to change up the way the head unit was mounted. Yours looks good!

Thanks!

I don't recommend the model I bought though.
Its a Midland 5000, and it's not as good as it looks.
The transmitting range isn't so great, and now the backlight on the readout dial doesn't work.
Plus, the switch to the PA is messed up. When I turn to PA, it does PA.
When I switch to CB, the CB radio chatter plays over the CB speaker, AND my PA. So I not only hear it inside my truck, but everyone else does too.
I installed an in-line switch in the PA line to fix the problem. It's working... so far lol
