Hi Guys,

I am doing a timing belt install on my 01 V6. Besides the sparkplug of death its been fine.

Last night I managed to strip one of the threads used to pull the crank pulley off. The stud is now stuck in the hole and I can't get it out, nor use it for pulling.

I can only think of two things to do. First drill out the stud and tap it up a size. Or second drill and tap two completely new holes to use the puller on. I don't want to do either because it will involve removing the A/C condensor because I don't have enough room to get a drill in there.

Do you guys have any other slick ways of getting this thing off?

Thanks,
Dan

I'd recommend a sears craftsman bold extractor kit. You drill a small hole a few mm's in, and then put the bolt extractor on the end of a ratchet and twist it into the hole you just made. It drills in counter clockwise and the more you turn the ratchet, the more it digs in and tightens up. It works great for stuff like you've got.

I too give a thumbs up on the extractor kits. At the plant I work at, our millwrights use them on a regular basis and they save a lot of unnecessary drilling and tapping. Although if you don't have one, I'd also recommend a tap as well just in case the threads are damaged. It wouldn't hurt to run it in the bolt hole to clean up the threads.

same here use the extractor then chase the threads with a tap just to make sure.... good luck
