I have a 2003 Xterra, just recently began having problems with the cd player. It's the factory single disc player. It worked one day and the next, it wouldn't eject my disc. It makes a clicking sound when you go from radio to cd and finally displays an error message. I called around to find out if it could be repaired, but apparently you have to take off the whole face of the radio area on the dash to repair it and it would be less expensive to replace it altogether. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue. Someone told me that the laser may be worn out, because I did play a lot of burned discs, but that didn't make much sense since it seems to be something mechanically wrong with the eject function. Ideas?

Try holding the eject button in for a little longer.

My CD player gets really hot. When I remove the CD, the CD itself is really hot. When I play some music, there is an extreme bass rumble. Some sort of distortion. I don't notice it on the radio, or some CD song. But others, its bizzare, the speakers make the whole door panel shake. Something's got to be shot. Probably a $150 Sony am/fm cd player would be just as good as it ever was.

Mine just started doing the same thing last night. I really don't want to have to buy a new stereo with the holidays coming up...*sigh* Oh well, I guess it's Merry Christmas to me!

I have a 2005 Xterra and I started having the same issues with mine too. I had a cd in and was able to eject it even though it didn't come out the whole way...I was able to pull it out my self. So I tried to put in a different cd and it got stuck...I had to use tweezers to get it out. The third time, the cd wouldn't even go in. Any suggestions on how I can fix it?

Not yet. I just started having problems with it on Sunday. Right now my Xterra is in the shop getting some body work done to it. I'm hoping it corrects itself...I don't think I can go without my cd player.
