Looking for a GPS for the Xterra. Didn't seem like the dealership had a built in unit as an option. Is there a built in modle available? Really don't want a suction cup mount.

i don't think there's a factory unit available for the x. your best bet is probably to get an in dash unit, like a pioneer or something. i have a tomtom, i feel your pain with wires all over the dash. i took the whole dash apart and ran the wires behind it so i have a clean install. the only problem with that is now i had to get an extra charger so the wife could use it in her car as well.

I have a V7 1000 unit that I installed under the dash. I have an external antenna that runs under the dash along the door edge and sits on the roof. No wiring is seen at all except for the 12V charger.
I made a custom cradle out of foam and covered it with black vinyl.
Here's a picture of it:

the former owner of my Xterra put an Eclipse NAV/DVD/MP3. Eclipse is made by Fujitsu and they're real nice systems. all touch screen and you can even get Sirius radio on 'em. Pretty sweet if you ask me. It can also be hooked up to your Xterra and they'll tell you how fast your going, whether your parking brakes on and all that good stuff. Try looking at an Eclipse AVN 5495.....the prices are a little high, but definately worth it

Here is mine... its the pioneer AVIC N3... if you dont like the flip up type of navigation and would rather the double din type then pioneer also has the AVIC D3.

How big a job is it pulling the stock radio out? Do you have to take apart the entire center dash area or just the section that holds the radio?
Thanks. Nice pics everyone.

its not a big job at all. You just have to take the top part off (the little tray thingy), undo a couple of screws, then the center part that holds the radio comes out.... no need to completely dismantle the dash.

An amature could definitely do this.

scroll through this post to check it out.

Thanks! Very informative tutorial on doing this. It does take the mystery out of it.
Question: Do you need to disconnect the battery during this procedure? Especially the major rewiring job as shown in the AVIC-D3 install?
