: IM GETTING A SHROCKWORKS BUMPER... which one?
zachbiz 08-08-2010, 09:21 PM So, I may be the luckiest guy ever, but my grandma wants to buy me a shrockworks bumper for my birthday/christmas combo present.
I dont know if i want to get the rear tire carrier or go for the front bumper.
I'm waiting to get back home to install a body lift (on my work bench) so both my front bumper (i have no brackets yet) and my hitch are going to look kinda funny sitting 2 inches lower. Now what do i get? I figure the front bumper looks a bit cooler and is more useful in terms of armor. But the rear bumper will have the hitch on it and a place to put my spare tire. Also, my hi-lift is on the roof and i wanted to mount a cb antenna up front. Ive been considering getting the front bumper, removing the hitch and only bolt it on when i plan to tow (i dont tow anything ever). but i would want new torsion bars for the front bumper. HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE.

Intervention 08-08-2010, 10:01 PM I'd go for the front too. The tire already has a place to live...but the front bumper needs Deer altering steel!!!
Bennyboy42 08-08-2010, 10:13 PM well, do you do alot of offroading? will you eventually get the other bumper?
if you actually tow stuff it makes it a no-brainer. but if you'll eventually get the front, id go for the back. why? hitch, tire carrier, and most importantly better departure angle and rear recovery points. trust me, they will come in handier than you'd think, and you dont have anyh right now, but you do on the front. plus when you up your tire size, you'll have a place to keep your spare.
J Everett 08-08-2010, 10:17 PM Me, personally, I'd go for the tire carrier, for all the reasons Benny listed, plus it's just a PITA to get the tire out from under the truck, and it's worse if you're in mud/snow or what ever. Plus, if you already have a hitch, you can sell it, put that money in a jar for saving up for more mods, like your front bumper or your new torsion bars.
zachbiz 08-08-2010, 10:19 PM i dont do an awful lot of off roading. but i go when i can. i do go camping and stuff with my dad. so i'm still not sure. having a place to put a winch would be great. but rear recovery points are great too. i will be getting both bumper eventually. I dont think recovery points are too important. especially because around where i am, big drops and boulders are more of a problem. So front approach angle and armor is probably more useful.
Bennyboy42 08-08-2010, 10:32 PM well to be honest, the first piece of armor people usually get is sliders. have you ruled out sliders and a skid plate or 2 instead? you can always do rear recovery points without a bumper, and you can do a winch without a bumper too.
i didnt think rear recovery points were that important, but you really dont have any place at all back there to pull from. its a real PITA when you do get stuck and cant be pulled from the front. plus, since i've had mine (not even 6 months), i've already pulled a few other cars out and towed a jeep off a trail.
just some food for thought.....
json3904 08-08-2010, 11:08 PM well if you think about it you already have a rear tow point which is the hitch... i would go with the front bumper...
TimRich 08-09-2010, 06:52 AM My vote is for the front bumper first. I'd go protection first.
modxterra 08-09-2010, 07:37 AM Well if your getting it for free go for the most expensive one cause if you decide to get the other bumper then you already got the priced one out of the way. and if you dont like that idea then get the front one. beefy, useful and badass
Front. By the time it arrives, your body lift will be done. Make sure to order it with the BL in mind or it won't fit right.
zachbiz 08-09-2010, 09:45 AM Yeah, i think im gonna go front first, ditch the hitch unless i need to tow something. and ill weld/bolt on some shackle mounting points through the plastic bumper. I think it would look fine. And my parents are getting me the sliders. :)
NJX01 08-09-2010, 12:49 PM if youre running stock tires you dont need a tire carrier...
go with the front, you already have a hitch, throw a D clevis in the hitch and call it a day.
plus! then you can mount some lights, a hitch, and really be badass.
RATTFINK 08-09-2010, 12:59 PM Front bumper FTW, yay :)
RATTFINK 08-09-2010, 01:05 PM Personally I'm going to get sliders before I get a front bumper.
zachbiz 08-09-2010, 01:44 PM the way i see it, if all goes as expected, ill get a front bumper, slider and new torsion bars between both grandmas and parents.
