Hi , i have a 2000 xtrerra ,so theres no confusion my stereo sytem is all stock ...my problemb is i want to replace the stock unit with a aftermarket one. There is nothing wrong with the stock unit ,,it lights up ,has sound plays cd.s the radio and tape deck works the whole sha-bang ,, i tried changing the unit out myself i bought the correct wiring harness and made sure i plugged the antenna jack in ,,but the best i could get was the after market stereo would light up but no sound ,,,so i took my xterra to a car audio shop to install the aftermarket stereo that i bought ,they got the same results as me ,,,the unit lit up and everything worked except the audio . they tried three different after market stereo units and all of them did the same as my after market stereo so i know it's not a problemb with my unit (not to mention my aftermarket stereo worked great in the 2000 mistsubishi i pulled it out of ).the guys at the car audio place called nissan to ask if there was a factory amp somewhere in the truck who ever they spoke with told them no . i'm baffled and at my witts end .((HELP))and ideas or solutions are greatly appreciated .thanks.

Sorry your having so many problems. I don't really know what would causing that ....there is no factory amp. stick your old unit back in and see if it works if it does then i dont know. maybe it might be the wiring that came defective.I myself have a '00 X had a stero system put in and had no problems of that kind. ive had a an after market head unit after of a month of owning the X. I'll do some research and try to see if anyone else has had the problem and get back with you.

if the stocker still works it sounds like the wires or the harness to me

naw the harness is good ,,I even tried hard wiring the stock and after market stereo once again the stock worked great and the after market lit up but no sound. thing is i know for sure the after market unit works .

its gotta be the headunit then.
if the wires aint bad(stocker worked) then that means the speakers are good, since the speakers worked, that only leaves the headunit or magic, maybe theres a mute button/setting on it.
if you didnt use the harness on the stocker thats another consideration, but if the stocker worked, that means its not the wires and its not the speakers, it either the harness or the headunit

Don't think it is the head unit because it worked in your other car. I think it has everything to do with the wiring. Faulty harness maybe?

im thinkin its the harness too, its one of the 2 though, but if hes right that the harness is good then, its the headunit, if hes right the headunit is good, its the harness
but if they are both good, then its a setting on the headunit

or improper wiring? Just for shits and giggles, try a new harness. Yes another new harness.
