: Interesting Noise

So I have began to notice a small pop/click noise whenever I am backing up and have the wheel turned all the way to the right (backing up to the right)

It sounds like it is coming from the left hand side of my car, somewhere on the suspention aspect of the X, behind the tire.

Any thoughts? or is that normal? (doubtful)

Thanks
-Tucker

maybe there is a loose nut or something...
or maybe a rubbing somewhere.

did you check around and under the area the noise is coming from?

Answers man! We need answers! ;)

I was going to say that when my alignment gets slightly tweaked, it will give a pop like you describe. Not sure what the cause is but it always goes away after I get an alignment. Of course, then I go hit the trails and knock it out of alignment again. :D

I have a something that sounds like a rock in my tire, but I got my tires rotated and its still in the same spot and there are no rocks big enough in my tires to make that sound.

You need new CV joints....go buy a halfshaft

could be the steering stops. definitely worth checking cause all they need is a little grease where the arrow starts and where the circle is so its a cheap fix:

make sure you do all 4 though. they're on the front and back of the control arms.

silverbullet nailed it, there was a thread that covered this on xterrafirma. I had the problem a while ago too so it sounds like it was the exact same thing.

The steering stop makes more of a loud grinding noise rather than a small click

depends on the amount of grease left on the stop. and he says its only going backwards. CV's typically will make noise going forwards also. I'm sticking with steering stops.
