Hi guys,

I got a 2000 Xterra SE (4x4) with an auto tranny. Got a quote today at a Goodyear shop to do a tranny flush, plus changing the oil in front and rear differentials and in the transfer case to full synthetic. The total is about $300.

Do you guys think that doing all that now is worth the money? I am planning on doing some mild off roading and I would like to be safe with fresh fluids everywhere... I got 50,000 on the ODO.

Opinions?

IMO ALL YOU SHOULD PAY THEM FOR IS THE TRANNY FLUSH, they charge way too much for full syn.
engine oil change costs you >$30 if you do it yourself, what do they charge for engine oil alone like $60?

Hello, You did the best thing you can do for your Xterra. changing to syn. will give a longer life on your vehicle.

It may even increase your mileage too. What you spend today? ..will reward you later at the years go by. The savings in repairs and down time will be a savings!

Good for you to do it NOW! ..........Aloha

Don't forget to repack the wheel bearings with synthetic grease as well.

Offroading, especially water crossings, etc...washes the grease out of the wheel bearings....and people always neglect them.

I like the Mobil1 Synthetic grease...its stays put when wet, and repels the water better....and its pink, so you can see when dirt gets in easily, etc.

:D

These are all things you should do your self btw....the tranny flush, as described, sure, they can do that...but diff and engine oil are very easy driveway projects.
