Alright so instead of working on my X today I had the fix the wifes car. She has a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. (Pontiac Who?) She was getting stuck often because the Passlock feature in her BCM was faulty. car wouldn't start and she would have to wait 15 minutes till the security light would go off. Pissed her off. We don't want to do that. A common problem with GMs so I hear. Well I had to MOD her car. I went to Radioshack got a 2.2K 1/4 watt resistor and soldered it in to the BCM wiring harness. The first time welding..uhh! soldering. Found the fix on Google and was skeptical but it seems to have worked like a charm. Hope it stays that way. We know what will happen if it doesn't. I am toast. She will not get rid of that car. Well for a GM it has run real well and it only has 75K miles on it so it will have to do. Well, next week going to Lake Winnipesaukee. I wounder if i can find some places to go Off-Roading with the X. Good times ;o).

Nice job.

Yep, passlock problems have been around since it was created, lol. I've done hundreds of bypasses on them, and I think only one didn't last, because the whole brain itself died about a month later. You should be good.

Yup had the same Issue a month or so ago. Guys car wouldn't always start and the dealership wasn't sure if it was the bcm or something else. Figuring that the dealership wasn't sure what it was I didn't go the resistor route (easy way to bypass earlier gm's instead of using an interface module for remote starts) so I used an idatalink module that communicates via the can bus. Worked for a few days and then the guy came back.. Was still failing. Ended up removing module and he had the bcm replaced. bcm was just toast lol

Heck even the bcm in the Colorado and h2's have a shitty setup. The 5v ref wire for the passkey is known to float anywhere from 4 to 6 volts, and if you use a bypass module that keeps its voltage reference at 5 volts it may not start since typically GM bcms need to see a pretty specific voltage to start, and with a +/- on the resister value of only like 10% a 1.2k resister on a 4v line will compared to a 5v line will be off enough it won't start

I checked the BCM but it seemed fine. Granted I am no mechanic. I am handy but no expert. I leave that to you guys and ask questions LOL. I knew the BCM was fine exept for the Passlock because the thing ran great. just didn't want to start every now and then. I really didn't want to spend the money to replace the BCM anyway because I heard the the problem usually will occur again. I figured it was worth a shot for $.99 worth of resistors. It seems to have worked great.
