Just curious to see if there are any of my loop throwing brethren hanging out here on the forum. Post up a picture or two of your trophies you've landed on the ol' long rod. Tight lines to ya!

I guide in Alaska for mostly fly fishing.

Old pic. I don't have all my pics on this comp or else I would share some good ones.

what do you primarily fish for? And to get started I would just suggest a cheap vice and a couple of tying books. Orvis has a really good one that Ive used for a couple of years.
Here's a link to it.

I prefer flyfishing... 95% of the time. American Shad are a HOOT on the flyrod.

Where at in NC are you from? My earliest flyfishing memories are on the Davidson river in Pisgah NF. Some of my family is still in the Dallas/Gastonia area and the other side is mostly in Raleigh.

I will see if I can get a pic of me flying from my float tube...my friend took some in June and I haven't seen them yet. It is SOOOOOO relaxing. The only problem is that those float tubes don't come with a beer holder... :( Rod holder yes, beer holder no...

They don't call me Fisherman John for nothing. Here is a salmon I caught on the Oswego River in NY.

I basically haven't done any fishing in the last 8 years that wasn't fly fishing. I do a little tying too.

I fly fish!! We've gone to New Mexico/ southern Colorado for years with Van Beachem.
fished the frying pan, roaring forked, san juan, green, east and west mareno, middle fork, charee, and some others but my favorite has always been this little river in san louis Colorado called the Calebra. I have some pics somewhere I'll look them up, I think on solitary angler they have pics of me when I was younger with some trophies. I think the two that made me the most proud were the one time I landed two browns on a dry and a nymph at the same time, and of course my 27" brown that was over ten pounds because she was full of eggs.

On rods my father and grandfather have some crazy nice ones but my setups are
Sage 9ft 4wt 2 pc
Sage 9ft 3wt 2 pc
Custom made (sage planks) 9ft 5wt 4 pc
White River Classic 8.6ft 5 wt 4 pc
White River Classic 9 ft 6wt 2pc
G Lumis 9ft 4wt 2 pc

Reels:
Scientific Angler system one 5wt
Scientific Angler system 2 (automatic reel) 6wt
Bauher 3 wt with 3-5 wt spools
Able 4wt reel
Orvis 3 wt with 3, 4, and 5wt spools
P fleuger with 4, 5, and 6 weight spools
Some old ross reels

@ Rattfink Tying flies is really not that hard. PM me and I can give you some great videos/ books to get. You'll want a vice and a few other tools but start with something simple like a woolly booger and go on from there. I seem to remember you being in Texas. So wooly Boogers, popping bugs ETC would be good flies to make and are realitively simple. If I can do it with one hand you can.

Here is the only recent pic I could find. We always use throw away cameras so we don't drop them but at the culebra you have to use a guide and sometimes they post pics on their site. Oddly enough...Nothing worked all day until I was screwing around with a white mitooka (wooly booger) and bam fought it for a good while it kept trying to go under the bridge and break me off.
