Why are people hoarding ammo? It is very hard for me to find affordable 45ACP ammo without buying in bulk over the internet. As soon as a store gets in a shipment its gone within hours. Please explain the rationale, this creates artificial shortages and drives up the prices.

Because a almost two years ago Obama took office and every republican swore on his life that he was going to ban guns and ammo... in fact gun prices jacked up and pistols went on short supply jacking up prices... same with ammo... now almost two years later the only gun law i know of him passing is the one that LETS me carry in a national park lol...

Buy in bulk over the internet. Who doesn't need 1,000 rounds of 45 ACP? I guarantee if you stick it on a shelf in a closet the shelf life will be 10 years or better. If you put it in a good .50 cal ammo can with a $2.00 desiccant pak it can be stored almost indefinitely.
Edit to add: pg john what do you consider hoarding?

Why wouldn't you be hoarding ammo is the better question???
It's better to have a lot of ammo and never use it, then to need ammo and not have it...
Basic principle for zombie invasions..
maybe people are hoarding ammunition because they feel that we live in an unstable world... when it all goes to shit the people with bullets are going to be in control... don't you think they know that...

The zombies are already among us, almost daily (usually driving a Buick, Crown Vic or Cadi) they wait until I get right on them, and then they pull out in my lane hoping I'll crash into them and become a zombie as well.
I believe the ammo companies realize that people will pay higher prices and their priority is to make money. Just like the fuel companies..why drop the prices when it still sales the same? Just my $.02..
I cuss em' too bro! I have two .45s a Taurus and Ruger, but had to park them and bought a Walther .22 for target sports. Good luck finding ammo and read some reviews before you buy cheap ammo, plus it's heavy and usually non-returnable.

I think its due to the animals planning a attack on us.. for too long we killed birds rabbits and deer..
With Obama's help they are planning an invasion.. why else would he let us carry in parks?
Let the people and animals fight it out in our parks....

Maybe they are running out of metal....were going to have a repeat where the army could confiscate your metal objects to be melted down into bullets. Everyone protect your sliders and bumpers if you have them.

Thanks everyone for your insightful advice. Now I know why my local Wally World is always out of 45's. Its not Obama, or the Republicans, its oh my God the Zombies. Now I'm really afraid I don't have any ammo. I think I'll invest my money in garlic and wooden stakes.

I keep it stocked for who knows why, normally have at least 500 rounds of each caliber, some are cheaper than others. Like my mosin i can get 880 rounds for about 170. It costs a lot to get the collection going but it is easier to maintain. If you just go out and buy 100 rounds a pay check 20-40 dollars then it can add up depending on how often you shoot.
