This is my first post, this forum has been helpful for me in the past on smaller issues and I am hoping I could fix this larger issue...


So about 2 months ago, my xterra wouldnt start in the driveway. Up to then, I had no problems. I thought it was the batter, but the battery was fine and lights/electrical system/guages would go crazy when I turned key and the only thing I would hear are some clicking noises, nothing more. Two days later, I was going to have it towed but found out it would start and had no issue until today. After the first incident, my mechanic friend came over with one of those autocomputers to diagnose the problem. He said there was a security code issue about my key as the only thing he could see. But it was working fine at that point so I didnt do anything.


So today- I drive to the local mall, come back to start the xterra and the same stuff happens. When I turn the key, nothing happens except clicking noises and the electronics go crazy. Even the dashboard clock resets to 12:00. Random guage lights go on and sometimes I cant even lock/unlock the doors. When I use the security remote and hit panic, it acts even weirder. I'm not sure, but may be it is a bad ground, are your battery terminals clean? the ground to the chassis clean?

I'm not great with electronics but I would start there.
