The reason the price was discounted so much was because the guy who had just bought it before me returned it because after driving a few hundred miles, there was a knocking in the engine. So it was put in the wholesale lot, and since my dad worked there, he could put in a cheap bid, and we got it.

After taking out the oil pan and the 4WD we came to find that the bearings were completely fried because someone ran it without oil. So it is going to be a cheap fix. I haven't got many pics of it yet, because it is in the garage, and its hard to get good pictures in there. :P

Anyway, hopefully this weekend we can FINALLY get everything back together. And I can put on the awesome stickers Creepy had made/sent to me, put on the hitch cover I got for it. Paint the plastics black, AND I can FINALLY get it on the road and fall even MORE in love with it! :D

Also, I am going to get my plastics painted black.
I already have a 2" suspension lift ready to be put on, and I am in the process of trying to decide what kind of tires I want. I'm leaning towards 33s, but I'd like all terrain. So I have to research that more I guess :p

33" DUratracs... They look like MTs and rive like ATs

ATs are a great choice for the Xterra - especially if it is your daily driver.

I've had really good luck with BFG AT KOs. They hold up to all kinds of offroad abuse, and they wear well on the road (and they are quiet too). I know they are pricey, but they work. I'm sure there are other good ATs out there as well.

MTs look badass, but they are soft and will get torn up quickly. Plus, they are quite noisy on the street.

For tires I recommend you go with a set of tried and true BFG ATs. I had Toyo OpenCountrys, currently have cooper STTs and im going to BFG ATs by the end of this year because no matter how cool aggressive tires look the my I prefer ride quality on road over mud terrain tires which I don't make great use of since im 2WD. You would be surprised how capable your X can be on all terrain tires and proper driving. I have wheeled my mom's FJ with stock street tires and go where the lifted FJs on mud terrain tires go no problem.

Looked it over, and saw that bearing #3 was already looking bad after we replaced it.
Looked harder at the crank shaft, didn't really see anything wrong. So figured that it must be internal.
So, I'm getting a new engine.

Yes! We are going to put new timing belts in the new engine depending on how many miles it has on it. We are trying to get one for a decent price with around 50,000 miles on it.

Nice progress. You know you could just throw in a 350 and carbs :)

The Pathfinder V8 IS the 5.6 engine from a Titan.

And the Pathy V6 is what we have in the 2nd gen X and it's a hell of a motor. It would take a lot of reengineering to put one in a first gen though.

x3 I got a free set of wheels from an 04 model X. I love the wheels I have on the x now and I really don't want to hurt them. So I'm planning on painting the free set since they're dinged up and kinda plain.

I'd look around and see if you can find a free set and paint them then slap a set of off road tires on them and whenever you plan on taking her out just do a quick swap... it isn't that hard esp since your dad has the shop and all.

47k for $1400 seems like a good deal. I think ive seen some engines in the 120k range for around 800 but who knows how hard those 120k have been.

So im guessing if you got a shop to install the total would be around 3000-3,500k at around 75 hour.

actually my dad is working on it in our own garage! we dont have a lift so its gonna take a lot longer than it should! he said he'd rather do it himself than the shop lol

We changed all of the gaskets..wouldn't hurt right!? Plus, we didn't have to pay a dime for the parts because my dad can just go into the parts center at work and pick out what he needs :D

SO, BIG STEP today. I come home from work, to find my dad JUST about to turn my Xterra on for the FIRST TIME with the new engine in it...I ran up to him, and asked if I could be the one to turn the key...so I did, and at first it started to make a ticking noise and I was freaking out, but my dad said that was normal. So after running it for about 15/20 minutes, it stopped. And it sounded beautifullllll.

Its not off the jacks yet, because we still have to put the 4WD back in. But being able to hear that clean sound of the engine running, was great! I will post a video of it running tomorrow sometime (this is big for me, ok!?) lol.

OH, and if some of you didn't know, my Saturn is no more. It got totaled 2 days ago :(
But, the Saturn won't even matter anymore once I get my X! Ok that's enough of my bragging. Hopefully the next update I post on here will be "MY XTERRA IS FINISHED!....FINALLY" :)

So the PML nets you about 2-2.5 inches. I guess the PGL gets up around that 5 foot mark. Not too bad. And they say that size don't matter to the girls.:engel-big:

Fantastic looking X! The only thing that really needs to be done is to take those plastic mudflaps off. I have an 05, and when I got mine, there was surface rust behind them that I had to clean off. Also, they break very easily if you go over anything but pavement. There's really no point to them and all they really do is potentially damage your X and make your rig look lower than it is. Mine looked much higher once they were off at least :).

Just a suggestion! Don't want you to learn the hard way like I did. It took a LOT of scrubbing and solvents to make my X look good again after that endeavor. Why Nissan put them on is beyond me...

They aren't there for no reason; successful businesses don't add things to their products for no reason. Since I've taken mine off I have a nice patch of dings at the back of both rear doors near where the trim piece ends. Still totally worth it though :D

Oh and if your 2nd gen had rust there (although I don't see how that could happen, they attach to plastic), how would warning her about her 1st gen prevent anything?

Well, I went through a HUGE puddle (is that what i call it? lol) today, and I couldn't see a thing...looked like a giant tidle wave was going over my car...it was so awesome! A little scary though...lol.

AND, my dad let me take it in our pasture while it was all muddy and I got to slide and play around with my 4WD...I'm loving the look of the mud all over :D
