Hi all! are there any good auto shops here in the lower mainland that wont charge me $1300.00 for a timing belt service, stealers suck!

Well im in TN... But im sure you have a deal near... try them out.. and that was for the water pump too

thats what i did, pretty much called three dealers today and they quoted me at $1200-$1300 (water pump included), which is a bit too much. I could order the kit and maybe do it myself but i dont want to risk it, its my daily driver and the only ride i have.

I got a quote last week from my Nissan dealer, They told me about $450 + tax for the timing belt, I didn't ask about the water pump though.

Which is even cheaper in the states.. about 430..

The problem with the stealerships up here in the great white north now a days is that shop hours run around $90 an hour. Now if the book says that the timing belt job is a 6(or 10 or 14 or whetever) hour job, they will charge you for 6 hours even if it only takes 2. What you need to do is find a mechanic budy that will do most of the work for you for beer and pizza. luckily for me my brother inlaw is a mechanic so I usually go that route.

D,I,Y, First time it will will take you about 4 hours.its all about finding TDC, after that piece of cake.

At how many Kms should you do the timing belt and water pump?
