I've been looking for a replacement vehicle to tow a small (2,000# +-)center console boat and just be my general transportation/toy. The Xterra is looking like a pretty good option. We already have three Nissan's in the family, so I'm familiar with the brand, but what about this vehicle in particular? I realize that since this is the Xterra club site any input will be slanted, but that's alright I'm already prejudiced towards the brand.

BlindIo posted: "My X towed a Ford F-350 Superduty flatbed loaded with concrete and rebar which was towing a 10,000 lb Bobcat excavator on a heavy duty trailer.
Granted I only pulled it a half a block because it was stalled in an intersection, but it was from a standing start."
I'd say the X could tow a small boat :)

Everything!
Good, bad, performance tips, preferred models/years. Can I reasonably expect to tow the above-mentioned boat through the mountains? What needs to be added in the way of a towing package? What optional souns system has input jacks for mp3?
Ya know....everything!

love my X and i have had no problems with it.... its a 05 with 74k on it and only had it for 2 yrs.. if you want to go with any model i would say go with a 2005 and up they are the better look models i think.... i dont know if nissan has any sound system stock for a mp3 jack but if you are looking for a new cd/dvd player for a cheap price that will have a mp3 jack or ipod hook up then go to millionbuy.com or millionbuyplus.com they are the same company but one just better orginized.

What it doozy.. are you looking at 1st gens or 2nd gens? 2nd gens are pricier but they are nice. Yeah Xterra's can tow 5000, although that's automatic; I know it becomes lower when you start looking at manual's.
Anyway welcome from NC!
