ok i have my shackles coming tm but my buddy got his yest (03 frontier v6 2wd) put his on and when he went to crank the t bars he turned the one side like 13 times to get 35" (wanted 36") and went to crank the other side but could only get it to 34" before it hit the crossmember (8 turns)
what are we missing here.... he set both sides down to 34" (turned the first side back 10 turns) and it pulls to the right

There you go buddy! Use my write up!

The term is re-index them. What you did is index them. Re-indexing simply means you get a fresh start (re grip at a different spot)on them. Start off by jacking the front end up. Remove the adjuster bolt that turned the least. LOOSEN the Anchor bolts at the forward end (1 big, 2 small) ans remove the T-Bar completely.

OK, you ready for some bad news? This MIGHT suck for you. Sucked for me. IF you cannot get it out with banging on it with a 4lb. sledge, and wiggling it/pulling it, then you are going to have to go with a portable butane torch($20 home depot) heat the forward end splines up as much as possible for about 3-5 minutes and have another go at it. Keep in mine...you might just want to buy it before you find out that you have to buy it. It will come in handy in the future anyway when you need heat to remove bolts.

Next, you re-insert it but only at more of an angle. When you do this, you are going to want it at the angle stated in my write up. Re-inserting it at this new angle will give you more thread to start with (allowing more turns). You want your adjusting brackets to be tucked up underneath, and not protruding the x-member. But at the same time, you do not want to exhaust your threads and leave no room for turning. Good luck my friend!!!!!-James

P.S.-Call me if you have any questions

I RE-INDEXED MINE bc i didnt want to crank em, realize i didnt have enogh adjustment, have to crank all the way down, then reindex, then crank all the way back up. why not just save your self the potential extra work by doing a little more initial work

About the first Q, a lot of times, there tends to be a rusted bond between the splines on the forward end of the T-bar and the anchor plate. To answer your question, I have to be there to see it. Even being there to see it might be decieving as it might look fine but still be a real pain. Either way, even with heating it up, it is not a bad thing. It just means running out and spending $20 on something that you are going to use in the future anyway.

and for the second question, If you have enough for what you need, I would steer clear of re-indexing. I did not notice any suspension mods in your signature so you should be fine. I would say that anything besides a PML, you are going to want to re-index.

I am not sure if you saw the link I gave you. Some people have a link to their own personal page or pictures as a signature but for good measure, here it is again:

http://www.xterrafirma.com/index.php...7&high light= (http://www.xterrafirma.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=4667&highlight=)

You have to re-index when.....:

A-You are adjusted to the ride height you desire and your adjusting brackets are still protruding

or

B-when, while you are tightening you run out of thread.

However, in either instance the correct finishing location is ALWAYS tucked in the x-member.

CJ, weren't you in the Springs this last weekend? Shoot!!! I would have loved to meet up with you! Later bro!-James

OH yeah...thought I might mention this as well. Something you must know, if you do not already, is to NEVER switch the left TB with the Right and vice versa.

The reason I say this can only be explained by me using candy canes "stripes".

Alright, when you have T-bars, imagine straight lines going all the way down from top to bottom, all the way around.

Now, when you put them on your X, they start twisting a little, like the lines on a candy cane are twisted. So your pass. side is going to have it's "stripes" go one direction, and your driver's side is going to have it's "stripes" go the opposite.

For that reason, you are to either do one of 2 things when working on them.

A-work on only one side at a time

or

B-mark them pass, and driver or left and right respectively.Preferably the former.

If you have a friend with you, know that whoever marked it while underneath, might be looking at it and mark the passenger right and the driver's side left. Now if your hand are on it next when you are re-indexing them, you might say to yourself,"automotive standard says to mark AS IF YOU WERE LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE". So that is why I recommend writing pass and driver because you know you will not get that confused. If you get the sides confused, then you have messed with the candy cane's stripes.
