: Dirty Rims
xearth 06-03-2010, 02:50 PM I've been touching up the trim and a few other parts of the X's exterior and today decided to get a bit of the rust off the rims. This is what they looked like before doing anything:

After a wash, some time with steel wool, and a rinse they came out looking much better:

I'm also looking to replace the rims at some point in the near future, preferably something black. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've looked at some black "bullet hole" styles I liked and black "sparco drift" rims. Preferences?
TimRich 06-03-2010, 02:52 PM Are you going for the street look or are you leaning towards offroad? Either way try to find something as close to the 5.5 inch back space as possible.
ejwoods 06-03-2010, 05:04 PM Looks good! Sparco drifts look pretty cool..
GlamisDunesStar 06-04-2010, 08:57 AM I love Robby Gordan wheels... he had them in black and they have a bead lock look too.. though they are kinda expensive...

I think I'm going for more street than offroad at this point...

any idea how much those weigh in comparison to the stock rims?

yup, but I didn't stop there. Instead of buying black rims I decided to paint (& then clear coat :) ) the current rims.
Prepping took the longest amount of time making sure the rims were clean, then getting them off the X took a little while, and following that up with a quick (but thorough) paint job.
Here are a few pics, let me know what you guys think...

FL Backpackonwheels 06-06-2010, 04:24 PM Looks good, I like the silver bead and center caps on the black rims.
ejwoods 06-06-2010, 04:28 PM They look nice! I'm more of a flat black kind of guy myself, but the glossy looks good too :D
xearth 06-06-2010, 04:30 PM that's what I was thinking about doing at first, but I'm pretty pleased with the glossy!
snackshack 08-24-2010, 10:06 PM They look good.
How is the black holding up?
xearth 08-25-2010, 06:55 AM They are actually holding up quite well, haven't even had a scratch on em yet! They collect a little bit of brake dust from time to time, but nothing that can't be quickly washed off! I'm really pleased as to how they turned out and not too long ago I decided to paint the plastics black to go with it
Deltaphi216 08-24-2011, 05:15 PM how bout some close up pics of them?
xearth 09-02-2011, 07:49 AM how bout some close up pics of them?
Sorry for the delayed response but I'll plan on taking a few pics this evening and posting them. I think the only scratch that I can recall is from when I had the rims mounted on the new tires. Other than that they're not bad, and yes ill take some pics pics pics
xearth 09-03-2011, 01:07 PM These are both the passenger rims. They are a little dirty and I'm going back to Haspin tomorrow morning so not gonna take the time to wash them off to show they still shine... but they're holding up pretty well
Where you can see down to the silver here is from when the mounted the tires. The rest is dirt and brake dust except for right around the lugs
