: shackle's which ones
cjtherriault 07-15-2007, 11:05 PM im looking at shackles now gonna buy when i get a response, which shackles offer the most lift, the slr ones say 2" but do they mean 2" of lift or they 2" longer shackle. the calmini ones say they are 1.5" of lift the ones on 4x4parts say they are 3" longer than stock and provide 1.5" of lift. i want shackles that are going to lift the back up 2"
cloudy01 07-16-2007, 01:46 AM slr lifts your butt up 2 inches...calmini is 1.5. buuut (dunno if you know this) you can really only get about 1.5 outta the torsion bars up front. i haven't seen an x with the slr in real life but the pix look fine. no ass up in the air kinda stance. hope thats what ya wanted to hear
cjtherriault 07-16-2007, 08:34 AM well im gonna get the slr ones then... and if i can crank it 2" i will but well see
cloudy01 07-16-2007, 12:46 PM ya...im pretty close to hittin stops on my x and i cranked the front right at 1.5 or maybe just a tiiiiny bit more. but ya man gl, install is really easy with 2 ppl, especially if one of yall knows how to do it lol.
cjtherriault 07-16-2007, 05:18 PM well i was gonna buy the ultra low profile bump stops that were reccomended to me
cloudy01 07-17-2007, 01:29 AM cool...just know that your t bars might wear a lil bit faster...thats really no big deal tho. new ones aren't too expensive. youre gunna love it after the lift! i do and im only 2wd so i dont really use it too much haha but it looks sooo much better..now for my 32's!
This is wrong, sorry.
The SLR 2" Lift Shackles are 2" longer than stock, and lift the X 1", not 2"
The SLR 1" Lift Shackles are 1" longer than stock, and lift the X 0.5", not 1"
The Calmini 1.5" Lift Shackles are 3" longer than stock, and lift the X 1.5"
The AC 2" Lift Shackles are 4" longer than stock, and lift the X 2"
The confusion is due to different naming nomenclatures...
One system says a shackle that is 2" longer than stock is a 2" Lift Shackle, another says a shackle that is 4" longer than stock is a 2" lift shackle....etc.
For shackles, assuming that the axle is roughly centered on the leaf pack, one inch of lift requires two inches of extra shackle length.
Its because you are only lifting the back of the leaf pack...
If you put a board on the ground, and raised one end of it a foot, the middle would be about 6" higher than it started, but not a foot higher like the end you picked up.
:D
So - the other differences are in quality of construction.....
The Calmini are just two steel plates...and some people have broken them...but, generally, they are tough enough for most people under most offroad conditions...and the powdercoat just falls off, like a colorform...but, they are the perfect length to compliment a 1.5" PML....and are only about $50.
:D
The SLR are bulletproof, with a steel brace welded between the two plates. Their powder coat stays on, and no one has broken one that I know of...but, the 2" shackle (Only gives 1" Lift...) is too short to match the 1.5" PML...some people are OK with that though, as they didn't like the butt up attitude of the stock X anyway.
The AC shackle is made much like the SLR, with a brace welded between the plates...but, at 2" of lift, does pick the butt up more than the front's 1.5", etc. The quality of the welds, etc...is not as nice as the SLR, but no one's broken one of them yet either.
As the swing of the shackle is what gives the wheel travel/articulation...I'd get the 2" lift shackle from AC.
Having the butt up a bit really helps on hill climbs, and the extra droop helps keep the tires on the ground where they can do some good.
:D
I HAD the 1.5" Calmini shackles, but replaced them with Revolver Shackles...Wow, they work great...lots of extra droop, and the tires get some traction on dirt or rocks, instead of on air.
:D
cjtherriault 07-18-2007, 05:27 PM were can i buy the ac shackles? the website only shows 1.5" ac shackles those revolver shackles caught my eye buy kinda scare me how durable are they?
S_e_X-Terra 07-18-2007, 09:19 PM those revolver shackles caught my eye buy kinda scare me how durable are they?
Uh oh.... TJ is not allowed to answer to this post!!! LOL (he knows why)
cjtherriault 07-18-2007, 11:00 PM ok? why is that
S_e_X-Terra 07-19-2007, 12:45 AM Go over to XOC... check out the suspension thread... then click on the 'revolvers' tab.... 12 pages long!!!!
http://www.xterraownersclub.com/forums.html
cjtherriault 07-19-2007, 08:43 AM on page 2 lol..... its interesting, but where can i find the ac shackles that are 4" longer than stock and raise me up 2 " in the back?
Ricer-X 07-19-2007, 08:58 AM call them, ask for volric, he will take care of you
AC has 2" Lift shackles...I kept calling them on it...but some people ordered them, measured them, and told me they were 7" eye to eye...but, yeah NOW the site says 6" eye to eye and 1.5" of lift...so, it probable/possible that there are two versions they offer/offered.
:D
As for the Revolvers, LOL....that thread was nothing to do with durability...
They are extremly durable...no problems, ever.
That thread on XOC was an attempt to explain to some knuckle heads who never HAD Revolvers, how they actually worked.
They THOUGHT they knew, because there have been countless MYTHS about them from people who didn't know, but IMAGINED problems that did not exist.
sigh...its hard to overcome Myths...it took 12 pages.
:D
They were so thick, that one of them STATED that a revolver shackle would lose traction the second they STARTED to unfold...the people who HAVE them said, well, no, they don't do that..he said a video would prove him right.
A video was shot of a regular lift shackle and a revolver shackle, on the same truck, on the same side, on the same ramp...and, not only did the Revolver NOT slip as soon as it unfolded...it went a couple of feet FURTHER up the ramp than the regular shackle could (The regular shackle slipped WAY before the Revolver did).
So - there WAS proof...but, he then went on about if it were a slipperier ramp it would be different, etc...despite it being the SAME FOR BOTH SHACKLES...etc.
So - if 12 pages seems long, the above is the reader's digest version.
:D
strikedistance 07-19-2007, 10:30 PM I just put on the AC shackles. To clear up any confusion they are 6 inches eye to eye and 1.5 inches of left but they look freakin huge. I researched around and felt that they are the best way to go. PLus they are powder coated black to match shrock lol.
