I am probably going to buy the go pro hd camera for my quad and my xterra to film my offroad travels...

If you have done this where do you guys mount the camera for the best angle for when you watch it later?

I wanted to put it in the bumper but then I thought maybe angled down from the roof would be better?

Any ideas?

I work in teevee for a living and have done a lot of car related stuff. How much money do you wanna drop on your camera set up?

I like the underneath picture....

I don't know if I want to spend a lot on the camera for the car and quad... I have a Cannon 40 D for photos, A Cannon HD Camcorder for filming... but for the offroading from what I have read that go pro gives the most for the buck and its waterproof ... its only about $350... what were you going to suggest?

Bungee corded around the passenger side head rest. Gives a in the passenger seat feel.

I used an Oregon Scientific ATC-2K $70 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-ATC2K-Waterproof-Action/dp/B000F5FKHI

Honestly, if your videos are only going to make it to the internet, an uber expensive HD camera is not the way to go. I was going to geek out and suggest something outrageous... the Go Pro looks pretty good. Long as it's waterproof and shock resistant. Solid-state recording is def the best way to go.

BigDog is that your own video with tho go pro? Is it the HD one?

natedawgg - honestly I love photography and before I just bought my X I would spend all my money on my camera and lenses...
I wasn't really doing it for the internet but more for my own documentation, I like to make photo albums and now want video albums I can make and watch on my TV.. I have video editing software and just want to play around with video

I'm not to up with it on video though. I do a lot of travels to Yellowstone and stuff and I always take photos, last year was the first time I dropped some cash on a video camera and spent around 1400 on the HD Cannon Video Camera which takes amazing videos... love it.....

Do you have a recommendation that is not two expensive that would be better than the go pro?? --- Remember I just bought my X... money for these extras is short now LOL!!!!!!!

Plus I am already looking into lifting the X hahaha :)

I like the idea of strapping the cam to the passenger seat, if you dont have a waterproof cam id say thats the way to go.

I use a small suction cup mount and a cheap JVC HD cam.. I paid 120 for the cam and 20 for the mount

I suction sup mine to either the windshield, or if i want to incorporate the view of the vehicle interior, I'll suction cup mount it to the back glass and zoom in a bit.

The one thing with the cheaper ones are the zoom suck

Yeah. I have a Flip HD, and if you zoom more than half way, every little motion of the camera is amplified to the point that the image is so blurry you can't tell what it is a video of.
