Most of the time, its the bushings in the front sway bar bracket. Bumps like that are making the front tires go up and down...which is flexing the anti-sway bar.

The sway bar is clamped to the frame cross member in bushings, and as it twists up/down....the bar rubs inside the bushing.

A shot of veggy oil for example will quiet them down.

I took my front sway bar off altogether...but I only recommend that if you are able to compensate for the sloppier handling that results...feels like a 1970 era caddy with the front bar off.

:D

The rear sway bar makes pretty much no difference in handing at all...so tossing it is a no brainer.

The other squeek on a stock X up front can be the control arm bushings, for the same reasons that the sway bar squeeks, etc.

Loose shock mounts sometimes do that as well.

Those are the prime things to look for at least, albeit, obviously, almost ANY loose part can squeek if the motions make it move, etc.

check your hood latch and your front bumper- x's have a nasty habit of these coming lose, and squeaking like there's no tomorrow. the 1st gens are more prone to the bumper squeaking, 2nd gens the hood. my hood was lose on mine and i thought i needed all new shocks up front it sounded so bad till i fixed it with a few felt furniture pads.

i think it might be my bumper.... rocked up and down on it a bit and it made the noise, just tighten it up?

i have the same problem with my 03 xterra... it was my bumper and i sprayed some lubricant on it and it went away... recently it came back and i've tried spraying wd-40 on it but it doesn't fix the squeak anymore. anybody have any suggestions?
