I don't know if this has already been covered, but I am going to ask it any way. Does anyone know how to remove the belts and change the water pump and thermostat on the 2002 X? I looked under the hood and can't find the tensioner pulley. Compared to my diesel and mustang, it's cramped in there. My wife would appreciate the help so she can run her ac without over heating.:wink-big:
A post would be a bit long...but, if its over heating, its unlikley to be a loose belt...unless you see slippage, etc.
On an '02, I'd try changing the radiator cap, to see if the cheap fix helped.
The rubber seals on the caps wear out, and lose the ability to hold pressure...
...when the radiator/cooling system can't hold pressure...the fluid can boil/can't hold as much heat, etc...and, when it can't hold enough heat...the latent heat builds in the engine...as the coolant is not carrying off as much heat....etc.
So - Its a common problem in older vehicals...and inexpensive to fix.
Most people do the water pumps when they do the timing belt.
:D
Here's a pic I took during an engine swap project last year...you can see the tensioner easily here w/o all that other stuff in the way, like when its IN the engine bay...

Changed cap and added purple ice. Still over heats if it is above 95 degrees with a/c on. Any other thing to check?

I've got the same problem. I'm thinking mabye the coolant just needs a change in my 02. I've got about 150,000 KM on it (almost 100,000 Miles) and haven't changed the coolant yet. I'm guessing the timing belt and w/p should be done soon too? Is the timing belt a belt or a chain? If it breaks will it wreck my valves like the older hondas?
