: Marshmallow's Build Thread (Pic Heavy)
GPD605X 05-06-2010, 08:05 PM I figured since I can't stop trying to mod my X (thanks to this awesome forum and write ups), I might as well make a build thread. Its a 2001 X 3.3 V6 2wd (heart of a 4x4) 103,xxx miles.
Got my X August 16th 2009.

GPD605X 06-03-2010, 07:08 PM Just got my "new" tires in today! Treadwright Warden A/T's 31/10.5 R15. They look a lil big and look like they might rub but it should be ok. Should get them installed sometime next week. I was so excited when they got here, I took them off the fedex truck for him lol. I'll post up some pics when I get them mounted...I also might paint the wheels after I get them on...can't decide on what type of paint to use...I'll figure it out though.

ejwoods 06-03-2010, 07:32 PM New tread is just so sexy :D
tylas1 06-03-2010, 07:43 PM dude youll be fine ! If yor really worried about it just do a pml ! it will lift the x and give those 31's a little more room to flex.
GPD605X 06-03-2010, 07:46 PM I'd like to do the bl but that might have to wait till sept for the bday or xmas, or maybe even fathers day.
ejwoods 06-03-2010, 07:46 PM Yeah I doubt you'll rub with 31s. If you do just trim a lil bit :D and do the PML too! PML + BL = pure awesomeness
tylas1 06-03-2010, 07:51 PM Yup agreed !!
XterraJunky 06-03-2010, 08:34 PM 31's will definatly fit stock, no trimming...
GPD605X 06-03-2010, 08:42 PM http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/admrl20/Marshmellow/SANY0065.jpg

xearth 06-08-2010, 08:02 AM Looks good dude!! And I just painted my wheels black and they turned out real good! Just picked up some black (enamel, glossy, rust prevention) paint from advanced auto parts. Got 3 of the tires done with one can of paint in case you were wonderin, and with chrome lugs and outline they look great! Bet they'd look really good on yours as well with the white/black you got goin on there

Thanks. I will prob mount my "new" tires sometime next week or by the end of this week. I have 2 choices on what color i want to paint them...
Option 1: I would paint the silver but leave the gry

ejwoods 06-08-2010, 08:31 AM Option 2.. besides, it will be a total PITA to tape off for option 1. 2 will look better IMO.
drbandkgb 06-08-2010, 08:32 AM Option 2.... For the win!
Looking good man.. next ya need a CB :D
I so need to tint my windows...
GPD605X 06-08-2010, 08:40 AM yea i wouldnt have any use for a cb, but yea i know a fire fighter who can tint the front 2 for like 40 bucks so i might take him up on the offer.
greentennx 06-08-2010, 09:19 AM Looks good.
TimRich 06-08-2010, 10:00 AM Looks good! I don't have much use for a CB either but I got one and installed it using David's super duper write up...lol Looking forward to seeing the new meats on the X, oh and my vote is for option 2... :)
drbandkgb 06-08-2010, 10:11 AM My super duper install eh? :> Heck its not like I use mine every day... Though I do like my PA with it :D Some ones got to let those hot momma's know there hot :D

Yes sir! I will be adding the PA to mine soon for that very reason! haha
drbandkgb 06-08-2010, 10:18 AM So see there are many reasons to add a CB:D
TimRich 06-08-2010, 10:21 AM Agreed!
dejablue 06-08-2010, 11:02 AM nice job
NJX01 06-08-2010, 12:00 PM looking good!
GPD605X 06-15-2010, 02:40 PM Went out and got some goodies. Had to go to 4 Different stores to get it. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/admrl20/SU1HMDAyMDYuanBn.jpg
GPD605X 06-16-2010, 12:30 PM Ok, tinted my taillights today and encountered a problem. The clear coat sprayed on kinda white...worries me big time. I used VHT Niteshades and did 2 coats.
One on the left has not been sanded and one on the right was sanded with 2000 grit sand paper

TimRich 06-16-2010, 12:33 PM That does look jacked up... I haven't used that but it looked pretty good with just the 2 coats and no clear. You may need to strip that off and start over. Looks like there may be an issue with the clear coat.
Selbysolger44 06-16-2010, 12:45 PM I 2nd just stickin with the 2 coats of VHT
GPD605X 06-16-2010, 12:49 PM Yea i really liked it after the 2 coats and wanted to clear it to protect it ya know...but im pissed that the clear came out like that. I'm guna try and sand, then wax and hopefully it will come out nice.
TimRich 06-16-2010, 02:58 PM Good luck!
GPD605X 06-16-2010, 03:19 PM Just picked up some acetone and give it another shot without clearcoat this time. Post an update in a few
Swordfish 06-16-2010, 03:33 PM Wow. that sucks. I did three coats of NS and two of clear (the real clear type). And I love how mine look.
GPD605X 06-16-2010, 09:01 PM ok, tried it again. rubbed the hell out of them to get the paint off w/ acetone then did two coats. Looks good, not as good as before but looks good. When they cure (24hrs) i've got some turtle polishing wax that im gona throw on there to shine em up since im not fudgin with clear coat again lol

TimRich 07-10-2010, 05:20 PM Lookin good! Now paint those wheels black! lol
GPD605X 07-14-2010, 05:23 PM Yea, I know...I bought 2 cans of Rustoleum Wheel Paint and 2 cans of dark primer, just waiting for a day off to do it since its a long process.
Just mounted some driving/fog lights. Haven't wired them up yet but I plan on going tomorrow and getting some relays and connector ends and stuff. Plan on having 2 switches, 1 for the 2 outside and 1 for the 2 middle ones. The lights are 55watt halogen lights that I got from Harbor Freight for $9.99 for 2! They have a plastic housing which is cheap but hey, for 10 bux, cant beat it. Plus I will eventually get some round ones but may stay with the whole square lights thing since every light on the x is square.

XterraJunky 07-18-2010, 09:03 PM Looking Good!!! :wink-big:
GPD605X 07-18-2010, 11:37 PM Thanks! Still haven't wired them up. I have to spend around $45 more just for the 14g and 18g wiring, 2 relays and better switches. Sucks cause its double what I paid for the cheapo lights.
drbandkgb 07-18-2010, 11:59 PM yeah some times cheaper isnt always better... Looks good
GPD605X 07-19-2010, 12:11 AM Yea, I'm guna see how they light up, may just chunk em and take it as a lesson learned and get some more expensive lights lol
TimRich 07-19-2010, 06:56 AM Looks good!
x-roop 07-19-2010, 07:34 AM i might be retarded but the tires u have are bfg ats? whats with treadwright? is that not 2 different things?
GPD605X 08-17-2010, 07:40 AM i might be retarded but the tires u have are bfg ats? whats with treadwright? is that not 2 different things?
Check out treadwright.com they are re-treaded tires. Some swear by them, others stay away. I havent read any bad reviews on them. They are in bfg at casings. I've seen them in other brand casings before but the price is what sold me. $400 shipped for 31's is good imo but others say different.
GPD605X 08-17-2010, 07:49 AM Also to update...i took the lights off the bg. I knew it would be a little bit till i got them wired up and they would cost me an xtra $40 just for relays and extra wiring and the cheapo bolts and nuts are already starting to rust so no go on that. So im guna try and mount them near the fog lights on the lower plastic valance and just wire them into the existing fogs that way it shouldnt be too hard for a retard like me to wire them lol. I also have been working out quite a bit to go to the police academy so havent really been working on the x. The next project will prob be painting the wheels when i get a chance and that will prob be it for a bit. Maybe some better lights but other than that, thats about it. We are also trying to buy a house so got a lot going on in the $$$ dept.
merlinsrealm 08-17-2010, 08:09 AM X looks good!
GPD605X 08-17-2010, 11:30 AM Thanks man!
GPD605X 09-12-2010, 01:11 PM Well today has turned out to be kinda sucky. As I'm leaving from work yesterday evening, I'm just chilling at a red light do my usual thing and all of a sudden the engine starts to sputter and shake pretty bad. I looked @ the rpms and it was almost @ 0. So I hit the gas pedal and nothing. So I give it a few seconds and then start it up again. Sits right under 1k rpm and then starts sputtering and shaking and dies again. Well, I continue to try this about 3 more times with the same result. Then as soon as I start it, I hit stepped on the pedal and rev'd it up to about 4k rpm and let it stay there for about 1 min or so, then pop it in drive and try and go and it acts like it wants to go but with my foot floored on the pedal it still sputters and acts like its going to shut off and then it finally starts to go. I go to pull in the driveway and the dam thing shuts off on me mid-turn. Got the battery checked today and its good and on my way back it does all of the above over again. Sometimes it will act normal then sometimes it wont. I sit in the driveway and let it run for about 3 mins or so then I look @ the temp gauge and its running hot. I was thinking maybe i just got some bad gas or something but I'm an automotive dumbee. Any suggestions guys?
That sucks Man !!
I'm no mechanic myself but for my 2 cents worth I'd guess Distributor !!
RumbleBeeX 09-12-2010, 02:30 PM tha same thing happened to my friends x. it was his fuel pump sender, it would start then die in a couple seconds even if he hit the gas, i would get the fuel pump and such checked out
vandebogart 09-12-2010, 03:36 PM There was a recall on the fuel sending unit for 00-01 IIRC.. i'd check on it
GPD605X 09-12-2010, 06:32 PM Aight thanks guys. I guess I call my local dealership for the recall huh?
GPD605X 09-15-2010, 09:27 PM Well called the dealership and the only thing that was recalled by my vin# was sum re-grease for road salt or sum crap. Took it to a mech and they say its the idle assembly which they can only get from the dealership...$180 bux. Now gotta wait for the part to com in thurs. Hope the labors not too bad. Also guna get them to rebalance the 2 front tires...see if that helps the shaking at interstate speeds
I would still have the Dist. checked - I have heard/read the OG s are prone to failure !!
GPD605X 09-19-2010, 11:44 PM Well, its now Sunday (technically Monday morning) and I still do not have my X. :( The shop I took it to said they would have it done by Friday and it wasn't. They said that they had a problem calibrating the module or some crap and it supposedly took them all day. So they say, it should be done by Saturday. Call them Saturday and they can't get it to work so they decided to bring it to the Nissan Dealership! (crap) So, I now have to wait till Monday to see if the dealership can calibrate the module. Question....anyone know what they are calibrating? I didn't think the Idler Assembly played any part of the electrical or computer but I could be wrong.
offroadsilver05 09-20-2010, 12:10 AM If it makes you feel any better, I feel your pain. Going through my own crap with repairs right now. Hang in there man.. it'll get figured out I'm sure.
GPD605X 09-20-2010, 12:35 AM Thanks...I'm having withdrawls lol. Haven't been in it since tuesday :(
offroadsilver05 09-20-2010, 12:43 AM Thanks...I'm having withdrawls lol. Haven't been in it since tuesday :(
Haha, yea man, I'm not looking forward to giving up my xterra for a full day this week either. The thought of being in my wife's MINI to get to work... irritates me lool. Seriously, I hate those cars. So glad I got rid of mine. She refuses to ditch hers though, despite it being a pile of junk.
Just out of curiosity.. what is the repair costing you?
GPD605X 09-20-2010, 01:00 AM Right now I'm not sure, but I do know that the idler assembly was like $180. Not sure how much labor will be. My dad gives him a lot of business so hopefully he will give us a break on some of it. I hope its not an arm and a leg though cause I am broke as it is.
offroadsilver05 09-20-2010, 01:02 AM I hope its not an arm and a leg though cause I am broke as it is.
...story of my life this year (finding a better job is impossible :( ). Hang in there.. let us know how it goes, bud.
2k Xterra 09-20-2010, 10:58 AM yo man i know how it feels, flexplate(flywheel) went on my X then trans starting leaking fluid, gasket got mest up, i havent had my X for over 2 weeks, hopefully picking it up today, over 1300 dollars of repair and i got the trans for really cheap.
have you ever got your car tuned up? around 120k my xterra would sputter and everything and i got a tune up done and problem was fixed and i had very similiar problems like you. All day work is expensive, for my labor which was 10 hours was 700 dollars and i got a deal and paid cash, good luck man
soccerbrace 09-20-2010, 12:56 PM marshmAllow ;)

I've had it for about a year and havent done anything but oil change, rotate and balance the tires. I know I need to do a full tune up on it but money has been kinda tight. Got a 1yoa and trying to buy a house. I gotta buddy who is mechanically inclined so I can get him to help with it, the last time I did a tune up was to my wife's 03 Yukon and it cost me around $100 bucks for fuel filter, new plugs and wires, air filter and throttle body cleaner.
marshmAllow ;)
LOL, I tried to change it to White Lightning Build Thread but for some reason it wouldn't change it.
soccerbrace 09-21-2010, 01:01 PM I'll change it for ya.
GPD605X 09-21-2010, 01:34 PM Thanks man!
soccerbrace 09-21-2010, 01:39 PM No problem. It was pretty easy to hack into your account fyi. Weak password strength.
GPD605X 09-22-2010, 03:45 PM Thanks, changed it. Finally got my x back last night. Apparently they had to take off the plennum? or what ever its called to get to the idle assembly or something. Also had them rebalance my front 2 tires and the IDIOTS rebalanced all of them and put the wheel weights on the outside of the wheel when I specifically told them I wanted them on the inside. I didn't notice it at first but today when I told myself, hey, lets stealth the wheels today. I got all excited and then walked outside with my painting supplies only to see the nice shiney weights on the fronts! So now I'm all pissy because I know it takes a while to do them right and i had already factored in time today to do it. Just a little venting!
drbandkgb 09-22-2010, 03:50 PM Bummer man.. Im very anal about where the wheel weights go too... Ive been wheeling and you could see where the weights moved..
Plus they just look better inside
GPD605X 09-22-2010, 04:10 PM I mean I had a big grin all over my face and my wife was like, what are you fixing to do??? I said, make White Lightning a little darker :) Just bummed:heul3-big:
RacerXXL 09-22-2010, 04:28 PM Paint over the wheel weights.
soccerbrace 09-22-2010, 04:32 PM Just kidding, I didn't hack into your account dude.
GPD605X 09-22-2010, 04:40 PM Well my thing is that when they get re-balanced that the original paint is still there. I'm just worried it won't match. And also I'm using primer so I would have to tape off the weight shape, sand, prime and paint again. Finally got the bill from the mech, and its $583.87! It was the Idle Air Speed Contorl Valve. The part was only $180.

offroadsilver05 09-22-2010, 06:08 PM Sorry to hear about your excessive bill. Didn't sound like he remembered that business you guys send him, huh?
GPD605X 09-22-2010, 06:12 PM yea i mean parts were only around 275 and just labor was 265 for 3.66 hrs of work. the stealership charged 100 just to calibrate the module.
GPD605X 09-22-2010, 11:20 PM Just finished stealthing 2/4 wheels. Took about 30-45 mins just to sand. Those little nooks are hard to get into with some sand paper lol. I think they look freakin awesome! I'm going to let them sit overnight so they can cure and what not and then do the other 2 tomorrow. I'm going to try and paint the logo on the center caps white but its guna take a little more effort lol. I used Rustoleum Wheel Paint and Rustoleum Sandable primer and 150 grit sand paper. I liked the primer look better because its more of a flat look but I think overall it came out ok considering my painting experience.

offroadsilver05 09-22-2010, 11:54 PM How are you getting to work tomorrow with your rims off your truck to dry?
Anywho, looks fantastic. One reason why I like having a silver X, the alloys match the truck. If I had any other color I'd do exactly what you're doing (well.. I'd powder coat them as I have a buddy who does a set of 4 for $150).
Looking great though. Can't wait to see them on your X.
Btw, you confused me with your new avatar. I thought it was as friend of yours posting that he helped you out.. took me a bit to realize it was you, haha.

I'm off on Wednesday's and Thursdays so I'm off tomorrow. Yea, I changed it, but I'm guna change it to something different, not really digging it.
offroadsilver05 09-23-2010, 12:10 AM Better avatar.. gatta show off the X ;). Ah, that makes sense with your days off. Looking great so far, man.
I got my front two windows tinted today and lemme tell ya, it really completes the look the X needed. After you get your wheels done, see if you can tint those to complete your blacked out look. I'm really liking those tires. For their size, they look really aggressive. The X in general looks so much better than it did when you first got it. Congrats.
GPD605X 09-23-2010, 08:39 PM ok....all is done!! Sweetness has been achieved. Did 2 coats of primer on each and 3-4 coats of paint. Used only 2 cans of primer and 4 cans of paint. Used Rustoleum Wheel paint Matte Black.

Looks Much better !! Nice JOb !!
GPD605X 09-23-2010, 08:50 PM Thanks! I had a problem with one of them, started to look like small little bubbles so i waited for it to dry and just lightly sanded it down then re shot it. Doesn't look as good as the others but I'm happy with it. My wife was even like, honey! those look sooo good! :D
RacerXXL 09-23-2010, 09:17 PM Man those look good, very nice.:)
GPD605X 09-23-2010, 09:25 PM thanks!
offroadsilver05 09-23-2010, 10:41 PM That looks amazing man. Really completes the look! Congrats on a great job, glad you decided on doing all black instead of half black and alloy.
GPD605X 09-26-2010, 11:09 PM ^^thanks.
GPD605X 10-07-2010, 09:35 PM Did a little painting today... painted my nissan logo on the center caps white. Took a while to tape em off but I love the it.

offroadsilver05 10-07-2010, 09:36 PM Nice, I like how it matches your tire's lettering.
GPD605X 10-07-2010, 09:43 PM thanx, I think it makes the wheels just pop. It just looked too black.
GPD605X 10-07-2010, 10:08 PM I'll get a full side shot when its daylight.
tylas1 10-08-2010, 10:34 AM Looks good but ya gotta take of those goofy side steps !
GPD605X 10-08-2010, 11:22 AM Yea, I took em off and I agree. Makes the x look better, but I use the steps when I put stuff on the roof rack. And for the wife lol
TimRich 10-08-2010, 11:34 AM Looks good man! I like the white lettering. Gives it a personal touch!
GPD605X 10-08-2010, 12:43 PM Thanks. Hopefully soon I'll order tons of stickers from creepy.
tylas1 10-08-2010, 03:50 PM Gotta keep the wifey happy !! Why not jus fab up some sliders ? Same concept but will help alot as far as offroading goes n it will serve the same purpose as a step
GPD605X 10-08-2010, 04:28 PM I will eventually get sum sliders, just too much $$ right now and really don't wheel nearly enough to need them. Once its paid off, then its heavy mod time lol
GPD605X 11-10-2010, 02:21 PM Put 2 more coats on the tail lights. They look perfect. Also added some stickers...

IMMA NEW FAN GPD, IM ONLY 20 AND HAVE AN X ALSO,
wish i took pictures of when my X started but imma start taking pictures now,
i should have pics of what my X looks like sooon..
LOVE how you did the rims, im thinking of doing that too..
WAY TO GO THOUGH VERY INSPIRING HAHA.. BUT IT LOOKS REAL NICE..
GPD605X 11-14-2010, 12:11 PM Thanks! Yea I can remember how it looked when I first got it, huge difference. I was stoked how well the wheels came out.
GPD605X 11-14-2010, 12:51 PM Finally wired up some lights on the front. Just cheap 55w lights from harbor freight. I'll eventually get some better quality lights but they will do for now. Wired them up thru the firewall and put a toggle switch next to my rear wiper switch.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/admrl20/utf-8BSU1HMDAxNjIuanBn.jpg
its just a cheap switch but the switch that came with the lights wouldn't fit into the hole so I drilled a small hole for a new one. Looks stock IMO but could be me.

tylas1 11-14-2010, 04:33 PM Nice shes coming along
drbandkgb 11-14-2010, 04:36 PM Looking good brother
GPD605X 11-15-2010, 07:33 PM Thanks! Kinda shopping around for some better lights and waiting to buy a B&M Light Bar :) I'm thinking about the Hella 500's that I can get @ Walmart. They are about 60 bucks for a set w/ covers. I've been thinking about building a tube bumper with a friend of mine. He has access to a welder and trying to get a tube bender... I've been looking lately and seem to like the tube bumpers more and more. Plus they are a little easier welding wise and planning wise.
GPD605X 11-15-2010, 09:07 PM I've been searching and searching for stuff to help me out with mounting and what not on tube bumpers... anyone find a better thread or point me in the right direction? I'm trying to see options on how others have mounted them and designs (going my own route just need ideas, not duplicating anyone's)
RacerXXL 11-15-2010, 09:46 PM I've been searching and searching for stuff to help me out with mounting and what not on tube bumpers... anyone find a better thread or point me in the right direction? Front or rear? I've been looking and researching for months and going through threads on here, Ronin, Pirate4x4, NOAS, GoneMOAB, and anyplace where there may be picks of any rigs with tube bumpers for ideas. There's a lot out there you just have to keep looking.
As far as duplicating someones bumper/idea...it's all pretty much been done before. Find what you think is going to offer the most protection on your truck and build it.
GPD605X 11-15-2010, 10:07 PM Front. I mean I'm a total newb when it comes to fabrication and this will be my first major mod on the x. I've got some old chain link fence tubing that I can test out as trial and error and also practice but I need to get a welder, bender and notcher. But I almost don't want to buy all of it because its pretty much a 1 time use thing...hopefully I can find some friends with the equip already lol. I'm looking at HF for the equip and found a notcher and bender for like $140 + tax but its only up to 2" diameter. Do tube bumpers usually have a greater diameter than 2"?
RacerXXL 11-15-2010, 10:10 PM My plans right now are for the main tube portion to be 1.75 DOM tubing and rest out of smaller stock.
Yeah the tools are pricey luckily for me I'm good friends with a guy who has a hydraulic bender, a notcher, a lot of experience, and a lot of DOM tubing. :) Just need to find the time and sync up our schedules.
95eg6p 12-31-2010, 05:14 PM Awesome Build!
Now I know what she looks like on 31's and Stealth looking wheels, that's my next project for my 02 X. :)
GPD605X 12-31-2010, 05:26 PM Thanks...I can't decide whether to build a front bumper now or wait to get a 2nd gen then build. Decisions decisions
GPD605X 01-20-2011, 08:31 PM Small update...driving the other day and got to a stop sign and noticed a little white smoke coming from the hood...pop it when i get home and this is what i see
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/admrl20/downloadfile-7.jpg
Once i get this fixed, I'm looking at dumping those cheapy reverse lights and getting some flush mounted led trailer lights...also bought a better set of front lights. Also, thinking about chopping up the bg and keeping the tubes and just mounting them to the stock bumper and adding some other small stuff to it to make it look not so stock. Still leaning towards the tube bumper but im still on the fence about which to get. Steel bumper or tube? One of these days i will man up and make a decision, lol.
Maverick 01-21-2011, 01:54 AM Yeah, actually mine is leaking there too! Its a P.I.T.A to change the gasket on that side! You have to remove the air intake plentium and other parts! Good luck!
GPD605X 01-21-2011, 08:20 AM Idk if its the gasket or the tubing above it. Kinda looks like its leaking from there and burning when it gots the engine.
TimRich 01-21-2011, 11:30 AM Yep, my valve cover gasket is leaking too. I'll get around to fixing it one of these days...lol
Maverick 01-22-2011, 12:32 AM On the good side, the bolts are really easy to take off and put back on! I was really surprised about that! What I did was use allot of extension adapters for a little ratchet set, along with a magnetic extension tool grabber to keep the screws from falling down and getting lost somewhere! It worked really well!
GPD605X 01-22-2011, 03:34 AM So its not too hard huh? how labor intensive is it? Anyone know where a good how to is?
RATTFINK 01-22-2011, 06:26 AM Looks like a valve cover leak. I just had mine fixed a couple of days ago.
Nice build btw!
GPD605X 01-22-2011, 06:29 AM Thanks man.Thanks na
Maverick 01-22-2011, 11:04 PM So its not too hard huh? how labor intensive is it? Anyone know where a good how to is?
The only hard thing is taking the air intake manifold plentium, you probably will need the gasket for that, and it would be wise to remove the bras pipe under and right of the throttle body and have to replace some vacuum hoses.
The valve cover is really easy to remove, especially the passenger side one, and really easy to clean with some spray degreaser and a few rags.
You will need a regular pair of pliers to open and close the valve cover channel that holds the gasket. There are some lips that hold on to the gasket that make it easy to put back on!
Also you will need a razor blade, depending on how dirty the head where the gasket sits is.
And thats pretty much it! And about the how to, not sure, you would have to search! Good luck to you man!
GPD605X 01-22-2011, 11:41 PM Yea, might be getting a professional to do that one lol
cajun_x 02-12-2011, 10:05 AM How are those treadwrights holding up? Any problems or issues?
GPD605X 02-13-2011, 05:55 PM Holding up great! Still look brand new...tread still looks new. I love them, I will definitely buy them again and will recommend them to anyone.
aznboihoy03 02-28-2011, 04:08 PM hey, nice to see another 2wd X here! getta prerunner bumper slapped on that!
GPD605X 03-01-2011, 01:18 AM Thanks...I'm working on getting one...trying to work on building one our getting one built...just trying to convince the wife why I need one lol
alec3135 03-01-2011, 11:31 AM very nice xterra i have a white 02 se sc 4x4 and i relly like the black and white mix on here how did the paint stay ?? it seem like it stay on there or if it gona face quick ?
GPD605X 03-01-2011, 11:42 AM Thanks! The krylon has held up pretty well. I haven't exactly taken care of the paint...meaning I haven't been washing it as often as I would like to but so far it hasn't faded. The only part that has faded is the back door handle on the gate. Other than that, everything is working fine.
alec3135 03-01-2011, 01:33 PM ok awesome i appreciate it i am probally going to try to do mine this weekend was it hard to get off bumpers and fender plastics ?
GPD605X 03-01-2011, 01:49 PM Nah...i would recommend to leave the front metal bumper on, it was a pain to put back on. Every thing else is pretty simple to take off and put back on. Just make sure to take your time , prep is the key. Be sure to take before/after pics
alec3135 03-01-2011, 02:06 PM alright will do ill keep u updated and let u see it when i get it finished i appreciate the help it really helps me out

Nesterra 03-30-2011, 12:04 AM I love the X man. I like how it all matches, the black and white. I am also looking to get some flush mount reverse lights too! hopefully on a tire carrier.
DirtyJerseyJohnny 03-30-2011, 08:43 PM How do you like those treadwrights now man? i'm thinkin about pickin em up
GPD605X 03-30-2011, 08:53 PM I love them. They still look brand new. Ride really smooth. I highly recommend them.
cajun_x 03-30-2011, 09:35 PM I love them. They still look brand new. Ride really smooth. I highly recommend them.
Installed my wardens a couple weeks ago and I love them. They ride and handle great.
DirtyJerseyJohnny 03-30-2011, 10:13 PM nice, what about wheeling? i don't do heavy off roading, just like to hit some trails here and there, and I go fishing a lot which obviously goes hand and hand with the trails, but I'm not hittin the rocks or nothin. but seeing you had for a couple months and still love em, that might seal the deal!
GPD605X 03-31-2011, 08:23 AM I haven't hit any trails yet but I know some that have and they handle awesome. You wrong regret buying some.
GPD605X 03-31-2011, 10:45 PM Just ordered my PML Shackles!! Woo Hoo! Super excited. Next is the IAB

Will also be getting a 2"x20' recovery strap for $16.99. They have the 2"x30' for like $19.99, Should I get the 30' or the 20'? I think for the price difference I might as well go ahead and get the 30'.
aznboihoy03 04-04-2011, 11:35 AM where you getting these deals from? online?! i need to get some!
GPD605X 04-04-2011, 11:42 AM Harbor Freight...best store ever. Check out Harborfreight.com too

xearth 04-12-2011, 06:34 AM Awesome! Just did the PML last weekend and love how the X stands now!
TimRich 04-12-2011, 08:49 AM Gotta love HF! I have the same reciever shackle from HF. Check the weight raitings on their straps, if I remember right they weren't rated for much weight. Nice find on the compressor. I may have to get one of those...
GPD605X 04-12-2011, 11:32 AM Thanks, I want to say they were 8,000 - 10,000lbs but i will check again.
GPD605X 05-13-2011, 11:42 AM Gotta problem now...After a good 20 min or so drive, I'll get home and notice either steam or white smoke coming from the pass side. I've looked under the hood and can't locate any leaks or anything. I'll get back in the car and I smell almost a burning rubber smell coming thru the A/C vents. A while back it was overheating and added coolant to the radiator and the reservoir and the overheating problem went away. I've always noticed a burning smell after I've driven it for more than 20-30 mins. One day, I even had someone at work rush in and tell me, "Hey, I think your car is on fire!" I said, "huh?" they told me that they smelled some kind of burning smell coming from the car. After reading a few threads, it looks to be a head gasket but I really really can not afford to get it fixed. I am barely making it now as it is. Any suggestions?
TimRich 05-13-2011, 11:49 AM Are your valve cover gaskets leaking? Mine are and it's slowly dripping oil on the exaust manifold. This causes mine to smoke and you can smell it as well.
GPD605X 05-13-2011, 12:14 PM I haven't seen anything. A while back there was some gunk on the headers...cleaned it off and took the radiator hose off and put a new o-ring in it and the leak stopped and hasn't had that problem since.
GPD605X 05-22-2011, 08:13 PM Finally did my pml, maybe it's just me but the front doesn't look any different. The rear does...i cranked the t-bars till my bump stops were about 1/2". Took me all day yesterday and today to get the bars and shackles off.

GPD605X 05-24-2011, 12:37 PM Also, took off my step rails...I'm trying to sell my bg so I can save a little more for nXm!
TimRich 05-24-2011, 01:03 PM Looks good! I cranked mine till there was only about 1/4 in gap and haven't had any issues. you might want to crank them a little more.
GPD605X 05-25-2011, 01:09 AM Heres about where both bump stops are at

GPD605X 05-25-2011, 02:44 AM Stormtroopers FTW! I'm going to look at the 2" bl, then xoskel for lights. I really want to get the ball rolling on the front bumper but gotta get $$ first lol.
Heavus 05-25-2011, 02:47 AM if you want to save some cash for a bumper, why not just get a prerunner lightbar?
GPD605X 05-25-2011, 03:08 AM That's what I was thinking about...i think I'll do that, it may satisfy me enough to forget about the bumper idea.
GPD605X 05-29-2011, 08:49 PM Found this...going to look at it tomorrow. Hoping for the best, I'll make sure all the required maintenance is done and stuff.

Nesterra 05-31-2011, 03:07 PM nice build, I've been contemplating getting a 2nd gen/or another SUV.
About your strange burning smell, I have the same problem. I think its the heater core leaking in my case. Just every now and then after driving its a very strong burning smell.
Good luck on the buy!
GPD605X 05-31-2011, 09:55 PM Thanks man. I'm heading up there Thursday Night. Still talking with the dealership about the X...they just don't want to budge much and I don't want to pay a crap load for things that they should fix.
GPD605X 06-06-2011, 09:52 PM Well... I pulled the trigger on the 05 X SE 4x4. Sad to say that I'm not an official storm trooper anymore but I alway will be at heart.
Here it is...

And of course....
about 4 hours after I left the lot, the damn "Check Engine" Light came on. Took it to autozone to get it checked since it was around 9pm. According to their reader...it says its either a large vaccum leak, ignition fault, fuel system fault or catalytic converter is going bad. They said its probably the first one on the list which is the vaccum leak...I'm calling them in the AM and having them fix it ASAP.

Sweet! What X is coming to NXM?
GPD605X 06-06-2011, 09:58 PM The 05. I traded in the 01 for it. I'm going to miss it, but I think the 4x4 will take my mind off it lol

Does tend to have that effect....congratulations. :wink-big:
Heavus 06-07-2011, 12:50 AM nice dude
TimRich 06-07-2011, 06:47 AM Very nice! Does it have a lift? It looks a little higher than a stock X...
GlamisDunesStar 06-07-2011, 08:17 AM YAY!!! Join the Silver Side! :)
GPD605X 06-07-2011, 02:18 PM Very nice! Does it have a lift? It looks a little higher than a stock X...
I think it does but I have no idea what kind or how much. It has 285/70R17's and they don't rub at all so I'm thinking its a 2" bl. But again, I don't know much about lifts and what not, nor do I know how to check to see what it is. I was hoping when I go to NXM, someone could take a peak at it see if they may know. I have to bring it back to the Mobile dealership (about 1hr away) so they can fix the CEL. They have 2 dealerships, one local and one about 1hr away. He said since I bought it from the Mobile store that I have to bring it back there. I don't get why I can't bring it to my local store. Its just such a hassle having to drive over there. They better have it fixed by Thursday because that's when I'm leaving for NXM!
drbandkgb 06-13-2011, 06:12 PM Well well well.. I didnt get to meet you ... I think I didnt lol I met so many X owners who knows.. I totally was looking for the White X too... I need to pay more attention..
The power is nice isnt it :)
GPD605X 06-13-2011, 06:17 PM lol, i don't think we formally met. But I had an absolute blast. The extra power is super awesome!
GPD605X 06-14-2011, 01:19 PM Brought the new X to the dealership Monday to finally get the CEL looked at. They said it was a bad bank 1 cat. Whatever that is and they are covering it.
06_footy 06-23-2011, 06:13 PM finally got around to checking out your buildthread
GPD605X 06-23-2011, 08:28 PM Thanks lol, everyone at work kept asking me..whose sweet fronty is that? Was showing them nXm pics
I also saw my old x at the stealership...they want 9k for it! Insane! Makes me feel good that they think they can get even close to that much lol
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/admrl20/IMAG0133.jpg
They took all my stickers off :'( and either cleaned the tint off or put new tail lights on...just doesnt look the same without the blacked out lights.
GPD605X 06-28-2011, 08:32 PM Well, heard back from the stealership today, they said that the bank 2 cat has gone bad. They have it on order and am currently waiting to here back from them...hopefully I will get my X back and actually get to enjoy it. So far I have owned it for 3 weeks and got to enjoy it for 1.
