Ok. So in the next month I will be selling my current car (02 Jetta 1.8T) and will be in the market for something higher and something 4x4.

I've been considering different vehicles that will suit this format.
Im for sure leaning to something Jap. Either Toyota or Nissan.

Heres where you guys come in. Convince me why I should get an XTerra, over perhaps, a 4Runner, Tacoma, or Frontier.

Whatever I end up with, I do plan on doing a 2"-3" bodylift, spacing the wheels out and bigger tires. I carry bikes quite often, and tools, and other things frequently.

frontier, in a few words. 4 door with 6ft bed. Thats all you need to haul bikes (w/o a trailer) and the toyota doesn't do. Really any of the 4 will do. My buddy recently got a new 4runner and its just a little too prissy/pavement queen IMO. None will be a bad choice but for my needs (bike and atv) a crew cab fronty with a 6ft bed is what i'd buy.

Get an Xterra or we'll all come to your house and kick you in the shins! How convincing is that?! :D

In all seriousness, though, the 'Yotas are ugly, especially the 4Runner, and the Nissans get better mileage. Other than that, they are comparable. I absolutely love my Xterra, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't have a couple of days when I wished for the Frontier instead. But then I got a utility trailer and haven't looked back.

I had a Frontier 2006... Loved that truck... The power is great.... I had a 4 door short bed... The SUV just works better for me... You would get the same power in the Xterra that the Frontier has.. Plus on a rainy day... The X will just do more... More room over all Id stay away from the Yota's Just ugly... and very wimpy looking...

i had a 98 tacoma i really liked the truck was lifted on 32's but lacked size and power stepped up to the xterra no an ounce of buyers remorce. Power windows way more cargo room- bigger- power just an awsome truck !!!!

thanks for the input.
right now im weighing the pros and cons of suv vs. pickup.
over the next cpl weeks ill go out and do some test drives and see what i prefer in real life.

at this point im leaning more towards the xterra anyways, simply because of availability, utility, options, and they fit into my price range a lot better!

Buy the Xterra. Want a real good reason? Put all of your goodies in the bed of a truck and go shopping at any store for an hour. With the economy the way it is now....I give it a 70/30 chance that it won't be there when you get back. Then you'll wind up buying an expensive bed cover for that truck so it won't happen again. It works, but then you'll soon realize that you just built an Xterra. Also, if you go tailgating/or go to the beach a lot, the rear hatch is perfect for keeping the sun/rain off of you. ; D
