Just bought a 2001 Xterra SE, which is in excellent condition, due to the fact that the previous owner kept it in the garage and never thought to equate the word "adventure" with this vehicle.

My previous vehicle was a 1994 Ford Explorer which I bought new, but it never lived up to its name and the years that I had it was just an exercise in the meaning of nickels and dimes...and now it's on it's way to Mexico to serve as a taxi cab somewhere.

I never changed the tranny...didn't even change the fluid...so it was the one reliable part on my truck (it was also a manual tranny).

But there were the other issues. It was a constant fight between me and the twin I-beam suspention regarding alignment; the ball joints went out twice; I had to replace several sets of front tires; I replaced the driver's seat twice because of breakage at the hinge joint; I came home one night and lifted the hood to see that my AC compressor decided it was going to glow red-hot; and for some reason in the months before I let it go it decided to give me less MPGs, even though I cleaned out the engine for the better part of a year by using only 93 high octane gas.

So it was a tossup. Should I try and resore and rebuild it, or just get rid of it altogether. Then I test drove a used Xterra and that settled it!:love-eyes2-big:

Apart from evaluating my Xterra for the regular powertrain and performance items it already has (It is still stock from 2001), I plan on doing the following:

Install a pair of round off-road lights by drilling holes in the roof rack near the front base.

Install a Nissan grill guard in front and off road light protectors for the tailights.

Install a lift kit of not more than 2.5 inches (I don't want it higher!)

Put dark burgandy/candy apple red on the hood, and have the paint scheme run down to the quarter panels then back to end just past the rear doors. This is similar to a scheme involving silver over black applied to a 2005 Ford Mustang which was featured on an episode of "Overhaulin" by Chip Foose.

Welcome !!

(please reconsider your choices on the grill "guard" and taillight "protectors") You'll be glad you changed your mind. ;)

Paint scheme sounds great though!

What's wrong with the grill guard and taillight protectors?

I saw a white Xterra drive by the house this morning, with those off-road lights exactly where I wanted to place mine.

I have no patience!:traurig-big:
