Hi All, I'm glad I found you guys! I figured I would start out with a question about our '06 Xterra with 20k miles. My wife told me a couple months back that the car did something strange while she was sitting at a stoplight. She said that she felt a knock come up through the floorboard with her feet. Like something came up and hit the body underneath. She said it had done that a coupe of times and the first time was right after an oil change at the dealer. This was at a dead stop. That made no sense to me, but I thought maybe they had left the skid plate loose or something. Everything checked out ok from what I could see, but when we took it on a trip the other day, I started noticing a real light knocking right under my feet. It happened at low speeds and on a slightly bumpy road. I didn't hear it, but I could feel it. When we got home I put it up on ramps and checked it out again and can't see anything that would come close to the body and everything is tight from front to back. When I drove it more recently, it didn't do it at all..

What could this possibly be?

I have no clue. maybe when it is doing it take it to the dealer & have them drive it at that time so they cant say no problem found.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I was hoping that maybe this was a common thing that everyone was going to say, "Oh that's nothing.. they all do that... " :2cool:
She made an appt to have it checked out when she took it in for oil, but she missed that appt. I'm changing the oil from now on BTW..

Thanks nascarjody!

My 07 did something similar on a curve the other day. It's like there's some flex in the frame, and you feel it shift/creak. It's delivered under your left foot.

I've tried to replicate, and can't. FWIW, I just got fully Shrocked, so it could be some of the plates touching, or the rails settling...

Thanks for the info Woody! :)

I wonder if I could convince the wife that the problem is that the body is too close to the frame and I could fix it by lifting it...?

Check the front crossmember. Take the thing down and put grease on it where it mounts to the frame. Dry metal to metal contact usually making the noise.
