It was fun. We finished up Mike's friend Scott's BL on his bed for the Frontier. We greased the bushings on my shackles and checked a bushing on a shoick and checked out a weird noise on mine.

Dan couldn't cghange his fluids because we didn't have the right size hex tool for his differential. But a good time was had by all :D

I haven't got a clue, could have been a figure 8 as far as I know:engel-big:....I was busy and don't own a second gen :D But they were looking for some mongo sized version of a tool that looked like a hex tool/allen wrench to me :D
:aufkopfhauen-big:

But did you hear how clean my Xterra is?

Yeah, I don't get this ether, like TJ said, isn't it just a 1/2 inch drive???

Maybe it was his muffler bearings. I don't know honestly as I was only picking up bits and pieces as the search went on. Also I only play a mechanic on TV so it is entirely possible I mixed facts or combined their searches for tools.

I'll let one of them clarify and sorry for any confusion.

It was still a fun day!

Did I mention how clean my X was?

:wink-big: :D

(NB If I am going to make a wiseass reply it has to be age appropriate:) )

The 2nd gen's use 2 different size hex bolts for the fill and drain holes. Yea i was just as surprised as you guys are when i crawled under there with my 1/2" breaker bar. Nissan must have been snortin something when they made the 2nd Gen's.

How fucking stupid. So what is it? A TORX, Allen Key, a stupid key that you can only get from Nissan?

Allen 10mm for the drain and 14mm for the fill plug. i had a 10 layin around but couldn't find it. Didn't have the 14mm anyway.

i changed it last night in my driveway ... at least Mike gave me a once over on what i needed to do once i got the tools (ty mike and autozone). tonight comes the front diff and OMG those bolts were the hardest thing to get off ... i have a piece of steel pipe from some old drum hardware that i bent using it for leverage getting those damn tings off.

LOL

I have no idea why they made the bungs use Allen Wrenches instead of square drives...that's so random and inconvenient.

I guess thats just one more reason the Gen 1's kick the Gen 2's Asses.

funny story that detracts this thread even more:

changed my rear diff fluid last weekend, and the drain plug was so mangled up that a 3/8" drive would actually fit (and worked) and the 1/2" drive wasn't even close to fitting :)

damn rocks
