I own a 2006 Xterra S model with 2wd. My only mods are a Kenwood stereo with Rockford Fosgate amp and shallow sub. I'll have to take a pic of how I installed the sub. At any rate, I'm here because I've gotten myself into trouble with my instrument panel.

I wanted to investigate whether I could change the orange lighting scheme on my instrument panel by just changing a bulb "behind the scenes".

I removed the panel from the truck, unscrewed every screw on the panel, took off the gas and water temp arms and pulled the black plastic cover away from the panel so as to peek behind. I found LEDs instead of bulbs so I re-assembled the panel and re-installed it in the truck.

Now when the vehicle is turned off, the arms are falling below zero on the tach and below the "E" on the fuel guage and the water guage so that when I have the vehicle on they don't represent the real readings.

Is there a way to reset all the guages? I tried to do it manually by placing all the arms on zero after the key has been removed but they eventually go way below zero again.

Any ideas? I saw a post that talked about a diagnostic mode?

Thanks,

Welcome to CX!

To put your needles where they belong, pull them off again, install the instrument cluster in the vehicle, start the vehicle and let it warm up to operating temp, then install your needles where they belong:
Speedo on 0
Temp where it usually is during normal operation
Gas where it was when you last stopped the X
Tach on aproximately 800 RPM (depends on where your idle is set)

This is usually a lot easier if you take a picture of where the needles lay while idling at temp before you pull the cluster apart, but if you skipped that step, you have to go from memory. Cheers!
