i've been happy with my K&N. but if i did it again i'd go with the volant just for the sealed air box. unfortunately it's also quite the chunk of change more.

i like my k&n also go for it. i guess if you do alot of offroading expecially through water you might want the volant i dont do a whole lot of offroading through the big water puddles so i went with k&n

K&N's is nice (its what im running) but the box isnt totally sealed. Im going to modify it a little bit so it wont suck any hot air from the engine. If it is sealed it is much better. Trust me! Volant is probably your best bet, unless you want to go with another brand just because of the "super-cool-brand-name" (like i did). Once i seal the box it will be perfect.

let me know how you end up sealing your K&N CAI. i'd like to do it too

ok so i went to http://xterrafirma.com/BoarderPhreak/pictures/Intake_Mod/index.html and would like to know some stuff before I go and do this. First for the two plugs shown what size might they be? Second the fender resonator do you plug that one up, if so what plug size is that? Then is this a good idea??

i could understand doing that if you were going to put a homemade snorkel, but i couldn't see the reason for doing it otherwise.

WilliamRuiter
06-12-2007, 08:27 PM
so you get no performance off of doing this?

fatkid_UH-60

just taking the resonators out? i wouldn't think so. but there are alot more knowledgeable people on here than me

i looked at mine, i think its pressed tot the chassis, but you can get into the fender well thru the wheel well, and it should be pretty obvious how to do so

Get the Volant Cold Air Intake...the others don't really get a cold air charge, and, they are more open to the elements/more likley to accidentally draw in somethin you don't want to, like water.

Stillen's site has the Volant Cold Air Intakes for Xterras on SALE right now, 'til the end of June...$235 for the intake....very good price.

:D

i live in the sonoran desert not much water crossings, although the heat does hinder the engine performance, which would you all recommend the K&N CAI OR THE VOLANT CAI, i ve also seen the air raid, what are the price differences per say...

iv heard nothing bad about K&N. one of my buddies installed a K&N intake system on his car and so far he loves it. i dont know anyone whos installed one in a truck, but i imagine it would perform just as well.

im thinking about getting a k&n cold air system for mine as soon as i get the taillights and headlights installed. it seems like their a little more expensive than the other brands, but from what iv heard, you get what you pay for when it comes to that stuff.

The Volant comes with a second 3" intake hole.I cut a hole in the fan shroud and ran a hose to the lower valence doubling my air flow.

Did you check out this thread?

It's as good or better than a CAI in that the intake and filter is still pretty well protected and it saves you about 200 bones.
