Just signed up, I'm shopping for an xterra since I just retired my subaru outback. I'm looking at 2002-2004 with 60000 miles or less. I'm interested in the Supercharger, but I'm curious if there are known flaws with the system or if it's pretty sound. It's gonna take some shopping to find a stick with a supercharger, but I think it'll be worth it. What should I be looking for in terms of problems with the truck? Do the backs of the rear seats have plastic covering them? so i can toss my mtn. bike in there without getting mud everywhere?

I have an 04 S/C and I don't think I would have been happy with the 3.3 with auto, and I also knew I would be settling after I saw this one, it was used in Jan 05 and the only new ones they had on the lot were new 04 models, Mine stickered for 30K and got it for 21 with mileage in the high teens I think.
Now I have 40,000 miles, just had a little coolant seep @ water pump, while it was under 3/36000 warranty.......might be hard to find five speed but it would be fun! Seat backs are carpet but wiil go forward to about thirty degrees........Welcome and keep us posted!

PS The supercharger is under the powertrain warranty 6/60000
but hold your ass at the gas pump, premium only, and 13-16 mpg hwy
thats $3.39 gal here, but since it is a weekend warrior only, I have been able to live with that part.....

Dang, that's not very good mileage... I mostly just drive on the weekends too, since I live a mile from my office. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it. Need a car/truck for carrying my kiteboarding gear, mtn bike and skiing in the winter. Thought about a Tacoma, but they're even more expensive, with more miles, and they're slower off the line.
I just wanted to make sure the S/C wasn't a model that was known problematic or anything like that. Subaru's had a lot of head gasket problems. ... didn't want to go down that road again.
