So I drop the X off to have the lower ball joint replaced under warranty, I expect the job to take a couple of hours. When I get back the counter guy tells me they've got some bad news.......in order to get the control arm off where the ball joint is they have to take out the torsion bar. Apparently it seized causing the bar to remain stuck. They say that they'll have to replace the torsion bar at my expense because the warranty company claims that the part is technically not broken. So now its going to cost me $ 500.00 or more to have the whole damn thing fixed.
I guess my question would be is , can you just replace the lower ball joint without the entire control arm assembly?

Dude. I'd ask to speak to the district service manager. If removal of the torsion bar is part of the procedure of replacing the ball joint, then it should be covered, regardless of the problem. I wouldn't take this one in the gut without fighting it if I were you.

No Way! That is NOT acceptable. If THEY are choosing to remove the torsion bar, YOU are NOT responsible to pay. Call the Nissan customer gripe line - its in your owners manual.

punch em in the throat, please dont
let them screw you like that, and i bet $ its not "seized" in there, i had hell gettin mine off but i got it, took like an hour. they are just pussies.
tell them to back off the adjuster til there is zero tension, then remove the 3 nuts holding the "torgue arm anchor" and hit the anchor with a hammer a few times, itll come off

I was at the dealership yesterday and was almost removed. I lost it. The other problem is that its not a Nissan Dealership. I was talking to the head tech at Nissan and he said that they would get the bar off with a little persuasion. I'd just as soon give the truck to the local nissan dealer but the part is under warranty at the other shop. I think I'm going to make the appt to get Nissan to loosen up the torsion bar and then I'll take it to the warranty place to have the control arm put on.
