I never really knew how bumpy the ride was in my x until i drove my brother's '07 4runner with sport suspension. Anybody have any recommendations as to what i should change. I've read so much on changing over to Bilsteins but im still not convinced that their on-road performance are the best. I keep reading that people say they're improved from stock but are there any other choices out their for a non-offroad specific, but highly capable shock absorber?

wouldn't the ride be better if you got a coil over suspension in the front instead of the torsion bars?

i dont know to tell you the truth...you tell me.
a 4runner is going to ride better, its street biased.
:D
The SLR 300M t-bars give a much better ride than the Nismo, calmini, etc, bars.
The Bils do way better ON ROAD than the stock POS shocks.
You'd be amazed at the improvement a set of Bils 5100's will make.
:D
I found the Revolver shackles rode smoother than the regular shackles too.

i also have a set of bil 5100 and the sway-away t-bar and i have no problem with ride quality..... remember your not in a cadi or anything so the ride quality isnt going to be the best in the world but i dont mind it......

fair enough, i realize it's not going to be the smoothest ride regardless of a shock change, but it definitely shouldn't feel like a buggy driving on regular pavement. Thanks for the info guys.
One last question, people always mention Bils stock replacement shocks...are those just the regular Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks? is there a particular part number etc?

TJ, i've been looking all over Bilstein's web site for the 5100's and no luck. i even used the part numbers BL5-13 Fronts BL5-11 Rears that you wrote on xterra firma. know how i can find some?

ok on SLR (shackles and shocks) seem to be for '01 and '02. shouldn't this also work for my 04?

well ricer and myself have the same lift other than the spring packs his is a 04 and mine is a 00.....
Yeah, the suspensions n the '00-04's are the same design, with minor rolling changes that don't affect part #'s etc.
:D
A word of caution on the SLR site....the 1" shackles are 1" longer than stock, the 2" shackles are 2" longer than stock, etc...meaning, the 2" shackle gives 1" of lift, the 1" shackle gives 1/2" of lift, etc...
:D
The HD's are stock length, and are valved a bit differently..and ride real nice, but the 5100's are better valved, longer than stock, but able to easily fit a stock truck, and are valved to work perfectly with a stock up to 3" lifted X.

i'm definitely getting the 5100s. probably in June i'll order. after the trip to arizona, a slightly softer ride wouldn't be too shabby.
