: Towing a boat
euro_trash 05-06-2007, 07:11 PM Hey guys
I am in the market for an SUV, and I want something that will be great for everyday driving as well as weekend excursions. I want to be able to haul a quad or 2, and the old lady's dad is looking at buying a 19 foot Bayliner, which would be nice if I could steal every once in a while. Is a 2002 X-Terra (supercharged) up to this challenge?
Hopefully I will be sticking around this forum!
Cheers
Dan
fatkid_UH-60 05-06-2007, 07:22 PM i think that something '05 and above may suit you more in the towing area. the X is a little weak in the horse power. the quads are probably going to be ok, but the bayliner might give some problems
json3904 05-07-2007, 10:53 AM yeah the 05+ have a bigger motor.... even if it dose pull the boat the gass mileage will eat you up.....
euro_trash 05-07-2007, 07:47 PM Well it's either that or a domestic V8 truck...
pepperterra 05-08-2007, 07:27 PM Well it's either that or a domestic V8 truck...
Why go with a domestic truck? I think the newer xterra would do what you have in mind. If it wont then check out the titan. I know for a fact that it will do everything you want & more.
fatkid_UH-60 05-08-2007, 08:30 PM yeah 05+ xterra should do the trick
Yeah - and the mpg is BETTER on the new X's, even though they have around another 100 HP (newer design...etc).
:D
chairmnofthboard 05-23-2007, 12:09 AM probably better off with a Tahoe. They claim to get better MPG also.
cjtherriault 05-23-2007, 07:40 AM get a titan woot
chairmnofthboard 05-23-2007, 10:21 AM I've heard the Titan/Pathfinder Armada are having a bunch of problems. Thy're on some list for frequent probs. (typical nissan)
BurnMac42 05-23-2007, 04:24 PM titan!?!?! dman guys, i was looking at the new frontiers and they can haul up to 7200 pounds. Same with the newer X's. We are also looking at a 21 foot Malibu Wakesetter VLX that has a ballast system and fully loaded and wet weighs MAYBE ~3600 pounds with trailer and that boat has some accessories on it let me tell you lol
BurnMac42 05-23-2007, 04:25 PM so my point being is i do not think a 19 foot bayliner will weigh that much, please correct if I am wrong on that.......just PLEASE make sure it is 4x4 or someone like me will laugh at you while you try and pull your boat out of the water and just end up sliding your whole rear end into the lake lol
json3904 05-23-2007, 04:31 PM i have seen that befor and it is no laughing matter.... i have never seen so many people try to get there truck and try to pull them out before they lost the trailer and the vehicle.....
fatkid_UH-60 05-24-2007, 05:59 AM vehicular Darwinism.
killbill 06-14-2007, 02:32 AM the people across the street from me have an 04 supercharged that they pull a 19 ft bayliner with all the time during the summer. I use my diesel when I pull anything.
Ricer-X 06-14-2007, 06:18 AM Ive been told things recently, that its not the hp that is the safety isue, but the weight of the X compared to its load, for example, if your load has say 1200lbs on the xterra, and you have to brake hard, it probably not going to end well
nascarjody 06-14-2007, 03:21 PM I've heard the Titan/Pathfinder Armada are having a bunch of problems. Thy're on some list for frequent probs. (typical nissan)
If you get a 06 or newer then the problems have been worked out. The 04 & 05 had brake & rear end problems. Those are now fixed.
chairmnofthboard 06-15-2007, 10:27 PM If you get a 06 or newer then the problems have been worked out. The 04 & 05 had brake & rear end problems. Those are now fixed.
I'll try to find the article. It's not just the brakes and rearends, It's a bunch of little things.
It was very high on the top 10 list for new vehicles with problems
Ricer-X 06-16-2007, 08:04 AM ok, im gonna have ot ask about that "typical nissan" remark,
doo you own one? do you not like it? do you have something against nissan yet own one? that sounds kinda dumb to me
my entire family drives nissans, none of us has ever had any problems with any of ours, all in all we own:
04 xterra
01 pathy
95 maxima
89 maxima
06 sentra se-r
90 300zx
05 altima 3.5
json3904 06-16-2007, 04:16 PM IMO i think nissan should take the lable from chevy "like a Rock" cuse i have never really herd of nissan's really that undependable..... and i have never known anyone to have anything other than minor problems with them.....i love my nissan and like i said thats my opinion but it is also many others...... so believe what you want but nissan is one of the top cars.....
fatkid_UH-60 06-16-2007, 04:48 PM after owning an exploder, Nissan was my choice in trying the foreign route
BurnMac42 06-16-2007, 07:49 PM hell the only car that i have heard nissn stuggling with was the 03/some 04 350z's. They had a tire feathering issue (mainly 03's) which led to a recall AND tire replacement for customers, tranny issues with the 03's and a fuel filler line recall.....other than those problems they are solid machines, Ghosn has done good work....

richiebowen 05-26-2008, 03:19 PM Another thing you have to realize is we are in a connected age now so when people have problems with their truck, doesnt matter where they are, we can all know about it.
Now with that said if you look at a forum and find people having the same problems, yes this may happen to alot of people but you also should count the amount of these vehicles bought and compair to the amount you see with these problems this precentage i would bet would be low.
Just like at my work i fix peoples problems with software and we help alot of people but if you figure the the amount of customers we have there are not very many people having problems. Then people read our forums and see 15 people with the same problem, and then its huge issue, but they are actually part of the 3% that have issues wich is really low.
richiebowen 05-26-2008, 03:23 PM Between 2000-2004 70,000 xterras were sold per year 280,000 First Gens
Xterra Mike 05-26-2008, 05:04 PM i tow my 91 Sea Ray about 18 FT and quad trailer all the time. Little sag and uses little more fuel but never had problem. No Complaints. 2001 X manual can tow 3500lbs and auto can tow 5000lbs. I know, hard to believe. Looking at a 18 FT travel trailer within a year or two. Here are some pics.
