: Hello everyone!
SCXterra 05-06-2007, 02:29 PM Im new to the forums, and am in the process of looking for a Xterra. I currently own a 2004 GTO, and have always wanted something bigger and something 4 wheel drive. I love how the Xterra look, and it appears that there's a good aftermarket selection for the xterra. Most likely when i first get one, my plans is to turn it into something that i can take off road. So i'm gonna need to get some beafy good looking tires that are great on and off road (and suggestions let me know) being that it will be my daily driver. I would like to probably get a 2in. lift or something. So far everyone seems to be very nice, and if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
thanks

Well, off roading is a lot of fun...and tires make a huge difference.
If you haven't off roaded before, the X does pretty good right out of the box...
The first things most people do to get started are the "Cheap mods".
You can do a 1.5" suspension lift for about $50 in parts, and add a 2" Body Lift for about $170-ish (Which you need to fit tires larger than 32"), remove the muds flaps, and the rear sway bar, and add a set of sliders(replaces the stock aluminum steps) and new longer rear shocks...all simple driveway projects, and be ready to take on some stuff that will really surprise you.
A 3" Suspension Lift (SL) runs at least a $ grand, plus, you need a steering kit for another $500+, and a few other things, and you can't fit larger tires.
If you HAVE the $, the SL is nice in that it DOES increase your ground clearance, etc.
:D
If you get a newer X, like a 2005+ model...the options are different...but, get the OR model if planning on offroading...the rear locker makes a HUGE difference in capabilities, and there IS NO after market version if you wanted to add a locker later.

do you think you could throw some sites our way for the SL/BL? i haven't seen them that cheap. i'd get both this month if i could find them
www.spencerlowracing.com for the SL, or 4x4parts.com for other SL, and BL options.
For the 2005+'s, they charge more though....and, there are OTHER sites to consider.
What years are we talking about?
:D
