Hello all, my wife and I just purchased a 2001 Xterra and LOVE IT!! My only issue so far has been that at highway speeds the plastic part of the luggage rack vibrates something terrible. My mechanic said he has another customer with the same problem and they just removed the plastic piece. I could do that if I have to, but I kind of like it there, it looks cool, what can I say. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution that works long term? Thanks!!

You might want to try and put a couple of rubber O-ring washers under the basket. You should make sure as well that the hex bolts are secure, the tool is located on the jack tray in the back. You can also coat the hex bolts with lube to grease them up. Just make sure you wipe away the excess lube.

Good Luck & Welcome to the Club

There's a little strip of rubber that's supposed to be under the lip of the wind fairing...assuming that's the vibe culprit. If the strip isn't there, the lead edge gets wind under it at speed, and makes it flutter against the roof.

I took off all the foo foo plastic roof crap as I didn't really like it, but if you want to keep it, look for the flutter spot, and see if that might be it.

I noticed there is a lot less turbulence without that faring thing, I even gained a little MPG on the hiway

i have the same problem when i get up to about 65 the plastic starts vibrating against the roof i have tried tightening it which didnt help.. i am going to try to pull it off and put some double sided foam tape under the front edge and hopefully that will keep air from getting under it..

I had the problem that TJTJ described. I tried a couple of things: 1st, a strip of rubber cut off a mat and placed under the leading edge of the fairing. I never glued it down in any way and it kept coming out. 2nd (and best solution so far), I bought a length of washing machine hose (black) at Home Depot and had Hubby cut a slit in it along it's length. Fitted that over the lip/edge of the fairing and it has worked GREAT! Doesn't look too bad either.
