: Lightweight Wheel & Tire combo?

Recently picked up an 04' X, and man, this thing is slow. Now I know, it's no sports car, it's a truck and it's not meant to go fast, but I'd appreciate not having to have my foot buried in the skinny pedal to make it up the local hills...so I've begun mapping out my options for giving the X a little spunk. Engine mods aside, I think I'll start with reducing the unsprung weight- anyone know how much the factory wheels weigh? (the four spoke ones)

Gonna start shopping for some wheels and tires that are a bit lighter, should make things feel a bit snappier, not to mention it'll improve fuel mileage, as well as the handling. Anyone go this route to boost performance? Any wheel tire combo suggestions?

A set of steelies might be lighter. As far as the stock rim weights go I have no idea. You might could find a set a little lighter but IDK how much that would help. I'm no expert on racing but I think the gain from this type of mod would be negligible. Only aspect I see lightweight rims helping in is breaking and some turning... I don't think an X can go or turn that fast though. They're governed at 95. I'll check for some combo's though.

Hope this helps, Clint

Centerfugial supercharger. Easier to install than a roots. I can put them together for around $1000

I have been looking for something like this for ages, I knew I wanted to go with a centrifugal and not screw but I couldn't find any support or info for it. Cool.

Ya if you want to know about them or any info what so ever Im your guy. I have installed quite a few and pieced together tons of kits for friends. LMK if your interested I can help ya out with whatever. They are super easy to install and can be done in about a day. Also I like to use an intercooled setup but you dont have to at all.

as far as rims go...

what would the supercharger do to MPG?
what is the point of the BOV and intercooler?

Is say that SC would KILL the MPG... So your wanting to go from 16 mpg to 7 or 8?

wait, you get 16? so that means i'd be going from about 12 to...5?

Actually everyone I have installed has increased the MPG. Never on a x though so who knows. My x now with the roots gets way better mpg than my old x n/a

The intercooler cools the air down and gives you a denser charge into the cylinders. More air means more power. And the blow off is for engine deceleration. The charger keeps pushing for a moment after the TB is closed making alot of pressure. The valve vents that pressure and keeps things from blowing up.

Wow, this got off-topic fast! Coming from an autox background, I know for a fact that reducing unsprung weight will indeed aid acceleration. So will a centrifugal supercharger, but honestly what's posted above just looks like some hack eBay kit. What are you doing for fuel management?

In regards to the Light, Cheap and Strong post, I know. Heard it before, and I'm sure I'll hear it again. Not to worried about price, because honestly you get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, I'm not wealthy by any means; but I'm willing to spend an extra few bucks for a quality part. Looks like I'll have to do some research, when I come up with something I'll be sure to post it up here.
