Hi all,
I just got my first Xterra... a 2000 2WD... I got it on the cheap (it had light front end damage and has since been fixed)... I'm looking to fix it up.. maybe convert it to 4x4... Definately needs shocks...
Any tips, recommendations would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Joe

seems like it might be a tough job to convert ot 4 wheel, but I don't know much about these things, so good luck. I just picked up an 03 SE with 95,000 for 7,000. I am happy with it so far.

calmini offers a SAS which would make it easier to convert to 4x4 then you need the tranny and transfer case i think it took a guy a full weekend to install the sas but about the tranny and t-case i dont know...... i did some reaserch on it at one point in time and i think one can doit for around 3-4K if you did it yourself....... good luck.....

Welcome !!
The conversion to 4x4 is not usually worth it when you factor in all the costs of parts labor and time spent on it. If you really want the 4x4, its much better to trade up to another truck.
The conversion has been done once that I am aware of, though.

Thanks for the input guys... I've done some reading and you're probably right... the only way I think I would take on the convert is if I found a junked 4X4 and could get all the parts I needed off of it... I've got a 5 speed in it already... is the 4x4 tranny the same but with the addition of the transfer case?... I'll look into it when I get ready...
I just ordered 4 RS5000's for $131 bucks, shipping included... with the buy three get one free offer going on at Rancho right now... Get 'em while the gettin's good... Be advised that Advance auto parts isn't honoring this... It looks to be online only so I'll have to wait...
I'm looking to put a receiver hitch on it... Anybody got a stock one for sale on the cheap?
Thanks all,
Joe
