: Where to mount driving lights???
KevinR 03-02-2010, 05:33 PM I have the worst stock lighting on my 02', no fog lights and my high beams aim very low and dont project enough light. Wheres the best place to mount some driving lights, KC daylighters, Hella 500s etc.??
Thanks
tameroflions 03-02-2010, 05:38 PM the main problem w/ hellas or KC's is they are not legal for on road use. if you are looking to replace the headlights w/ those, you will most likely get pulled over. ofcourse, some cops are lenient, but it wouldnt wanna take the chance.
id suggest getting an HID kit and replacing the headlights themselves.
KevinR 03-02-2010, 05:42 PM yea, i recently replaced the headlights with expensive zenon headlights and didnt see a bit of difference, i was dissapointed. But i have friends that have mounted lights on roof racks on other cars i was just wondering if anyone knew of any places to mount secondary lights.
but thanks for the concern
tameroflions 03-02-2010, 05:45 PM yea, i mean i've got 4 lights on top and 2 on my front bumper, but they arent street legal and i dont turn them on. sounds like youre looking to have somehting supplement your existing lights, thats what i mean is illegal, having those lights on on the street.
what year is your X? good mounting places depend on that.
vandebogart 03-02-2010, 05:54 PM They're legal if they're mounted below the headlights.. I've got 2 Hella 500 fogs below my front bumper that i have on all the time
tameroflions 03-02-2010, 05:57 PM oh really? i may need to do that.
and by may...i mean definitely.
Swordfish 03-02-2010, 06:02 PM I thought the law was they needed to be mounted below the hood to be on-road legal. Above the hood they need covers.
vandebogart 03-02-2010, 06:03 PM At least.. in VA it is. I think there's a limit of 6 lights on at once or something like that.. and they have to turn off when the high beams go on

KevinR 03-02-2010, 06:08 PM well i have an 02' but i desperatly need these lights cus the stock ones suck. i cant fit the hella 500s underneath the grill where that grey/silver plastic piece goes across they dont fit. is there other bright driving lights that are a little smaller??
KevinR 03-02-2010, 06:09 PM chuckamazuk how much were those and how was the wiring process. Are these fog lights or driving lights??
Swordfish 03-02-2010, 06:14 PM The FF75's are way better than your stock Fogs. Just swap a set of these for your factories.
KevinR 03-02-2010, 06:18 PM hmm. I just am not sure if those will help cus the problem i am having is that my lights dont shine far. Is it possible to mount pencil beam lights where my fog lights would be. (My X doesnt have fogs.)
vandebogart 03-02-2010, 06:22 PM Maybe they are out of alignment and need to be pointed upwards some?
KevinR 03-02-2010, 06:26 PM yea my friend suggested that. Is that pretty easy to do?

Well then mount the driving light version of the 75's in the same-ish location!

In VA its 4 forward facing lights .... how do i know?...yes i got pulled over by VA state trooper, no ticket but he just wanted to tell me that i should cover up those lights cause they are a distraction to other drivers. he also concluded by telling me his Jeep stories!

I had no idea they made those. the thing is they are square and the fog lighting spot is circle. I would prefer not to mount them close together. But do you know how to adjust/align the headlights, that might be my problem.
chuckamazuk 03-02-2010, 07:15 PM Write-up in my sig but here is the link anyway. Read THIS (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11012).

drbandkgb 03-02-2010, 07:17 PM You can fit them down there... Look at Drake rig.. he has them down there..
I have some good lights on my roof.. 4 Hella 1900.. Not for Road use.. and 4 Northern Tool lights... that you can run for Road.. Most depends on the State.. My 4 Northern Tool lights work great 55 watts each and only cost me 12.99 for two.

They dont come with any wiring harness.. but I made my own..
GPD605X 04-30-2010, 06:50 PM what about here?? did a little photoshoppin...thinking about it. Would the grill shell hold the lights? i would mount the two in the middle upside down.

NJX01 04-30-2010, 07:38 PM i think youre better off just drilling the brush guard honestly.
i think youd get alot of vibration on the grille, plus its not very strong, it might crack or something
GPD605X 04-30-2010, 07:40 PM yea thats what i was wondering...i wonder if i put like a metal plate or something behind it...idk. I only thought about it cause if I do the BL i cant really use the BG
cool9mm 04-30-2010, 09:20 PM You can pop out two body clips under the bumper and install smaller styles of lights with no drilling and a solid mount to the actual metal bumper. Maybe a 30 min job that way if you are using wire loom and going for a clean install.

I know it's a video but you can see where mine are... like drakes clean, no drill install

I believe the headlight adjustment procedure is in the owners manual.
Do that first even if you are going to go ahead and install other lights.
The bumper mouth is a great place to install lights on your year Xterra, large opening and lends itself to a simple DIY bracket.
