I am in the process of buying a xterra. I am on club titan also. I already own a 2006 nissan titan & am trading in my G/F suburban for a xterra.

Weird......

I traded in my old "land yacht" (suburban) for the X....

Excellent decision on my part, better gas mileage, easier to park, more acceleration, better braking..... less cargo area but that was an exception i was willing to make!!

Don't get me wrong...you're the one making the payments, etc....I'm just expressing my take on it.

Buying a 2wd SUV, especially one with a heavy frame and 2 tons of weight to haul around, and less room, comfort and gas mileage...because of the form factor, etc...is impractical in of itself...as the same functions coud be better performed by a minivan or a Cute Ute, etc.

Its like my Jeep - a 2 ton four seat convertible that got like 16 mpg, slow and ungainly on the road...a lousy commuter car.

If I theoretically got a 2wd of it, it would be the same lousy commuter car, with one more mpg....for a grand or so less....and no more ability to do what jeeps do.

Now, as car buying is really about priorities, that's just my version....obviously, if you just want a particular look, you could get a 4 cylinder Corvette, A mansion with no furniture, a 2wd SUV, etc....and be perfectly happy I suppose.

IE: If you just want it to look like an SUV, and don't care if it works like one or not, as you don't NEED one, you just like the look/can afford the compromises involved...its not like you're hurting anyone to get one.

:D

So - please, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, say you can't buy a 2wd SUV, etc...its not a personal attack...I'm just expressing confusion, or perhaps concern, about the decision process.

Is the above about right?

We are comming out of a 97 suburban. So we still need the room (although less room) has more tha a car. She doesnot go off road. It sits high enough to where she is comfortable for her in houston trafic. Believe me we drove alot of vehicles before making this decision. Also we both work for Nissan dealerships so we made one heck of a deal. Aparently these vehicles are verry popular because they tried to dealer trade for 5 of them before we finally got one.

Yeah i almost got a 2wd, but the little demon on my shoulder told me that I needed to get a 4wd. In retrospect it was a good decision on my part because i like to go camping and sight seeing (on the road less traveled)!

But I can definitly see a 2wd being just as good.

All I can say is it is a good thing that I went with the 4x4, because my other choice was a 2wd 'off road'.

"Why would I want a 2wd 'off road,'" you ask... Well I thought that it came with a rear locker (similar to the toyota 2wd TRD). But after my purchase (of the 4wd) I did some research and found out that it didnt!??!?!?! What the heck is that all about? Why would they even call it an off road vehicle if it cant really go off road?

I work for infiniti but My G/F works for peacock nissan. If you are looking to trade go there & ask for Bob Boragine. Tell him jody & robyn sent you. He is the one who sold us both our vehicles. He is usually there top salesman so he is not looking to knock your head off. He likes to sell alot of cars instead of alot of profit on a few cars.
