Hello everyone, I am looking at an 03' SE w/ an auto and 4x4. It is really clean on the outside, and a little ratty on the inside. The armrest areas, and the window control area looks to have some noticable wear. I am not sure of the mileage yet. I am curious as to what i need to be aware of as far as when I test drive it. Any common problems with this that i should be aware of?? The asking price is 8,000. Thanks

Personally I would be patient and keep looking around. An '03 that looks pretty banged up on the inside, must have pretty high mileage. I've looked at a lot of '03s from 50-70k and the interiors still look new. With that said 8000 is peanuts so depends whats more important to you.

Ok, I just drove it, and it drives good, everything seems to work except I think that the switch that controls the windows might not be working right. they work at each door, but from the drivers seat, the left rear wont work. Anyway, it has 95,000 miles and really the only wear is on the gray colored armrest areas. Does these things have a timing belt or chain? and also how many miles can i expect to get out of this engine?

thanks for the link. Is the timing belt on these the non- interfering type, or does it really mess stuff up??

I had a honda accord that had the non-interfering type. They said the engine would just die if it broke.

If the timing belt breaks, YES, it will tear some shtuff up good.

Not a good thing to happen at all.

If piston/valve synchronization is lost, when the belt breaks...the pistons could hit the valves....bending and braking things that are very expensive to replace.

The belts teeth act to synchronize the associated engine parts...so if the engine loses that...things just run amok.

Some engines are free running, and use mechanical means to synchronize the engine instead of the belt or chain...so if the belt or chain break, the engine just stops working, but suffers no additional damage.
