A couple of guys came by for a mod day today. Installed a bumper and some lights. Nice bumper but the brackets didn't line up correctly. PITA. Anyway here are the pics.

great pics!

its funny, on snowy days like that that we RARELY get down here, everyone stays inside and hides, no one is out in the driveway workin on a truck all day. so...props for that i guess...though to you its probably nothing big.

it was 18 all day. They stripped out 3 bolts in the rack and yanked it off. left 3 holes in the roof.

Black first gen is Broden21. There was stephen (sexterra) dave (xterravt) dan (crashdan) and a few others that aren't on here.

and its an iron bull bumper. install was a little more problematic than desired ... required us to drill out bolt holes because the bumper didn't even line up with its own holes and it comes with no mounting hardware.

I would not expect bs like that from a bumper in that price range...

So that guy (IRON BULL) was on here talking about Quaility... vs Shrock and his doesnt even line up? I like it bro.. Just saying

I did like the quality. Seemed strong but they need to get the measurements right and supply all the hardware for the product. Then it would be worth the cash

bluex
01-31-2010, 06:03 AM
it didn't even come w/ hardware?? Wow!!!
My $800 ARB did and it lined up even after I rear ended a Camaro before I installed the ARB. :D

we had to bore out the holes that attache the bumper to the bumper mounts out to i think it was 13/16th ... not sure i wasnt the one drilling those.

we also had to redrill all the holes for the bracket that attaches the grille to the bumper, the bracket holes didnt come close to the holes in teh bumper

and we had to spend 30 bucks in bolts to put it all together

When it gets warmer we will make slots in the brackets so that its adjustable ... drilling at 15* was a bit cold and drained the drill quick

Just pointing out that the holes not lining up, assuming it was close, is not that hard to happen, considering the frame tweaking that can occur, and the variability from X to X anyway.

Not including hardware is a bit weird....I'd have called to see if the forgot it for example.

Some, like Shrock, make the holes slotted, etc, as they EXPECT a bit of X to X variability....and build tolerances into the mounting system, alignment to body panels, etc.

no slotted holes for adjustment and it was more than 1/2" off. Hardware is not included with the bumper. We called yesterday and they said its so the customer can use whatever hardware they want. Even the bracket they supplied for the bottom of the grill to their bumper didn't line up with the holes in their own bumper. just bad.

basically. Oh and i forgot to mention after all the drilling to get the bumper on it was about 1/2" lower on the driver side. Left a big gap between the bumper and head light. you can see where the gap starts to show if you follow the bottom of the grill.

It kills me how this guy said he would put his bumpers up against any ones for quality
And to hear the added issues.. Why would you ever want the customer to pick bolts out?
You have to think as a manufacturer the person buying the bumper might not know what is best to use.

I guess that is what you get for being the 1st to get one his front bumpers. I went w/ something that has been done many times and has been tested so I didn't have any problems or concerns when I bought it or installed it. I would accept everything to be almost 100% on a $1500 bumper...that is a lot of cash for a front bumper. You could almost bought 2 of my ARBs or got a sick custom bumper built from someone. Mike was it heavier then a Shrock or ARB?

TJTJ
01-31-2010, 10:32 AM
You can fill that in.

On the Iron Bull, as they make it enormous with giant cut-out lettering, a simple plate behind the letters in a matching color would make it all but invisible.

well this bumper weighs 180 lbs and I think a ARB and Shrock bumpers weigh in around 100 lbs....so that is an extra 80 lbs or more on the front end of your X. Im curious on how this performs off road and when you need to use your winch on some pulls. let us know....

Mike i told you the story so you know...but i agree with almost everyone on here...when you pay 1000 or 1500 or whatever for a product you expect to "bolt up" (reguardless of tweaks or settling) even if its at most 1/4" off thats cool...but when a product is more then 1/2" or in my case a full inch in some places you're gunna be pissed...i know it was a new toy but come on i got a new shrock rear that i had to send out to get plasma cut just so i could bolt it up....i was livid...im over it now...but not only did it take 7mo. for my rear bumper to come in but had to spend 60 extra bucks and wait one more day for it to get installed...still isnt perfect yet...but anyway...i've learned that no matter what the company says about it being "bolt up" dont listen...you may get lucky and not have an issue but if you do dont be surprised after all they are "custom" bumpers...sry for the rant everyone

Cazy day indeed!

I think I made 3 trips to get stuff for the install.
Grade 8 bolts for the bumper mounts
Grade 5 for the grill mount
Step Bits to enlarge the mounting holes
Inline fuses for light install
Attempt to find Stock bumper bolts - We have a hard to find thread pitch I guess. No One in the area had these and everyone Hates Metric I guess.

Besides what has been said. One mount needed a little tweak on the bottom mount as it was too steep of an angle.

As for the Rack. The only reason that 2 of the Nutsert were pulled out is that someone didn't look after cutting and thought that the bolts were free. Not the case but we are installing new Nutserts in those 2 holes.

The Bumper does look really good. I like the stinger a lot.
As for mounting this Bumper. These guys need to go back to work on the mounting of their Bumper to an X.
I can't see another one of their Bumpers going out their doors till this is resolved. They don't even give you the ability to adjust for a B/L like Shrock does.

Good seeing you again Mike

If I'm off on the Engine Mod Day I'll be down
