Just pickup up my "07 Xterra Offroad [which I might add was very hard to find in So. Cal] and I need some opinions from anyone who has Shrock rock sliders. Shrock offers it with 1 or 2 supports, any discussion on which is better. Also, where does it bolt up to? The discription says one in front and one in back and then recommends drilling one hole. I am not sure I like the idea of drilling into the frame. Any thoughts? Thanks for any input.

Get the 2 supports. In my opinion, too much protection is never enough.
You do have to drill one hole in the frame rail for each slider on the 05+ xterras.

I see from your pics that you have the rock sliders. I did you have any problems drilling and do you think it weakened the frame any?

us 1st gen owners dont have to drill cause we have 4 bolts in our frame, so thats why he said the 05+ X's need to drill

Don't worry about drilling the hole. It's small, there are a ton of other holes in the frame and the frame is a full box.

Thanks for the help. I would hate to compromise the strength of the frame.

I have the sliders too. It seems awful to drill a hole in your frame, but it is not so bad when you actually do it. Get yourself a nice uni-bit and go for it. If you mount the sliders first using the three existing holes, then you just mark the last hole witha sharpie and drill it. You cant miss, and the sliders have enough material around the bolt to cover up any ugliness.
I helped install some of the new sliders...for the frame holes, you get (Included) plates to bracket/box the hole, to actually strengthen the frame/allow the bolts to be tightened against the box frame w/o stressing it.
Its a rock solid set up.
The old X's came with steps that bolted to the frame...the new X's steps actually (gasp) bolted to the body....so the new X's needed completely new mounting points, to be able to mount directly to the frame, for strength.
The X has a boxed frame, its pretty sturdy...a small bolt hole is nothing, and by the time you put the brackets on both sides of it, its stronger than when you started...as you're essentially bolting a frame BRACE onto it.

I am not familar with a "uni-bit". What is it? My plan was to buy a new one.

a uni-bit or step drill is the most handy bit in the world. It will start drilling a small hole and then enlarge the hole to preset sizes. It actually does this fairly quickly, and the frame steel is no match for this tool. It makes a clean centered hole and you can pick one up at Lowes or Home Depot for about $14. What I like most about them is that they are not agressive like a twisted bit. They do not pull themselves into the material, so you are always in control. It will save you time and effort.

Yeah, Uni-bits ROCK!! The best part is that they never bind in the metal as they cut through.

Thanks for the web site. It looks like it would be easy to install the rockslicers and then drill the hole to fit the bolt provided. I think someone said that it is a 1/2 inch hole that needs to be drilled?

you dont want to do that. drill through the hole on the sliders cause you will more than likley mess up the hole for the slider..... just hold up the slider mark the hole then remove the slider and drill.... shouldnt be that hard to do......
