I' concidering selling my 1985 Chevy Blazer, and buying my friends 2000 Xterra. I was wondering What you all thought concerning reliabilty, ease of working on it, upkeep costs, etc. I also understand I might take a small hit in MPG's, and I get 19mpg in my Blazer.

His Xterra is a 4x4 SE package, with a bit of outside damage. Just getting the 411 from the pro's. Thanks!

How many miles on the X? The timing belt has to be changed BY 105,000 miles or its a time bomb after that (interfernce type motor). There have been some posts on distributor problems in the 00 X.

The timing belt is all well and good for changing within high mileage. I'm guessing you want to hear war stories of sorts? From my experience, I have a stock X and I absolutely love it. You would be surprised what it can do. I dont go all out crazy with it since its stock, but I haven't come across too much yet that it couldn't handle. I always call it the mini tank.

When I bought my hitch from Uhaul the guy asked me what kind of vehicle I was going to put it on. I told him a Nissan Xterra. he looked at me and said "what does a tank need with a hitch?" he was driving a Tacoma

It has 160k on it now. He did all the major services on it since new, including a timing belt at around 100k. It hasnt had a whole lot of maintenance since oil changes since the major 100k service.

He'll sell it to me for 2k, it has a little body damage, including some through metal gouges. Engine looks sweet, really clean.

I have to be honest, I'm a little apprehensive about getting back into the gasoline world. I've been all diesel for around 5 years now. What are those spark plug things. ;)
