In May 2009 a freak meeting with a tree on the way home one night led to this:
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/xterrawreck2.jpg
The untimely demise of my 2007 Lightning Silver X. I searched around for a month looking for a replacement vehicle and eventually found a 2007 Super Black X...
1st day home

Put my roof basket and wheels on from my old X
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/blackxterra0032.jpg
I waited all of two weeks and decided to bump up from the 265/70/16 Uniroyal Laredos to 265/75/16 Firestone Desti AT's
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/FirestoneDestinations002.jpg
In July 2009 I orderd the 2" basic lift from PRG with the AAL and rear Bilstein 5125's. I also took the opportunity to order my front Bilstein 5100's (ended waiting till the end of August for the front shocks to be delivered)
Here's a pic after they were installed in the beginning of September 2009

Flashback to August... while waiting for the lift to be done I got a little crazy with the spray can
Painted front and rear bumpers, grill, roof rack, wiper cowl, and rear hatch handle

At the end of Oct 2009, I orderd a set of AJ's Offroad Armor super squares and a Ballistic Fabrication C200 Diff cover
Here are a couple of pics after they were powder coated in Jan 2010. I also added a splash of color to the diff cover

Jan 2010, one final mod, the stock battery gave out so I replaced it with this:
Optima battery
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/optimabattery001.jpg

Well that brings the X pretty much up to date. I haven't wired the lights yet, I have been busy collecting all of the pieces and waiting on the weather and a break between work and school before I can tackle this project. I also have to wait for it to warm up so I can paint my skids and get them mounted.

Thanks for looking...

No pictures yet, but I placed an order yesterday for a set of Radflo 2.0 coilovers, PRG delrin UCA's to upgrade the front suspension. I also took the opportunity to order a set of PRG variable height shackles for the rear. I felt the change was needed with all of the extra weight I've added or plan to add to my Xterra. Will post pics when the new stuff comes in.

Well it's spring break and the weather has finally warmed up a bit, unfortunately I had to put my X in the shop to get a timing chain issue fixed. I figured I'd take the time to paint my skids, here's some pics of the radiator and t-case skids. I'm thinking about waiting until my new suspension is on before installing the skids. I'll decide later after I'm done painting and have my X back.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I've been trying to build it up right to make it trail ready for when school is done. I'm not trying to make a rock crawler but more of an expo type rig. Between full time school, work, and kids, I don't get to play too much. I plan on taking it out some this summer (maybe sooner) and have plans on trying to attend MOAB 2011 after I graduate. I've got lots of other plans like front and rear bumpers, winch, and either a low pro roof basket or full replacement rack. Also plan on investing in some 285/75/16 MT's sooner or later. Anywho, thanks for looking

Thanks man, one these days I might actually get to wire them up. I wanted something different than the normal Hellas, KC's, and PIAAs. I guess I won't know how they perform till they're hooked up. I'd love to get one of their LED light bars, big bucks though.

Spent today installing my Ballistic Fabrication rear diff cover. I wasn't pleased with the seal so I drained the fluid again, took the cover off and resealed it. I have to get more fluid now, lesson learned, when buying fluid it's probably good to get some extra. Anyhow I updated the first post with a pic of the cover installed.

Ahh i hear ya man...you prob coulda re-used that fluid...as long as it werent contaminated with the silicone sealant. Nice work tho! cant wait to see it all installed! ....and dude..... get yo lights wired...lol ;)

btw...what kinda bulbs those suckers use? can u do an HID retrofit...it's worth every penny...trust me.

They use a H3 bulb, I'm not sure if the housing is big enough to do a conversion. I'll have to check into that.

Rook

as long as it's H3 it is fine...you mount the ballast externally...in my case..right under the forward air damn on the roof...fits right in there...all you need is roof for the light to slip thru...the back area of the light behind the reflector is not that much bigger than a reg H3 bulb...and can be pushed out of the way a little bit too...if it is a problem.

Finally started on my lighting project today. I ran the main power wire from the engine compartment back to the rear cargo area and placed the aux fuse block. I don't know when I will get more done with working 12 hr shifts on the weekend and being in school all week.

I have plans on getting 285/75/16 Treadwright Guard Dog MT's for my stock steelies, hopefully before summer. The Desti's are just my DD tires.

I had some more time today so I was able to run the power and ground wires for my roof lights.

Vision X lights mounted on Xoskel lo pro light bar:
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/Rooflightwiring001.jpg
You can kinda see where the power wires go into the rear hatch:
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/Rooflightwiring002.jpg
Here is a pic of the power wires going thru the grommet into the cargo area:
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/Rooflightwiring003.jpg
And lastly, a pic of the neatly placed power wires in the cargo area:
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/Rooflightwiring004.jpg

That's about it for now. I ran the power wires back along the left roof rack rail since I didn't want to drill any holes. All of the grounds are connected to the roof rack bolts, like others have done. Not sure when I'll get to work on this some more.

I took delivery of the new suspension I ordered from Greg at PRG. Just waiting on a u-bolt/shim kit.

I swapped my LOBO shelf for a Raingler ceiling net in the cargo area. Same amount of stuff stored and full visibility out the rear window.
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/Rainglerlargeceilingnet001.jpg
Decided to paint my PRG shackles to match the skull on the rear diff cover.
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/paintedshackles001.jpg

Anhow, that's it for now. Still working on finishing the wiring for the lights and waiting to install the skids after the suspension upgrades are completed.

I finally got tired of looking at skidplates sitting around in the basement, so wih some spare time today I got the gas tank and t-case skids on. The gas tank skid was a little bit of a PITA to manuever about.
http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/skidplatesanddiffcover002.jpg

Still need to mount the last three, finish up my lights, and install the suspension upgrades. Will probably be a couple of weeks, when the semester is done before the majority of this is completed. Plus I'm waiting on some shims and new ubolts before I start messing with the rear suspension.

Spent a little time working on the X today. I placed the relays for all of my lights; connected the switches to the relays; connected the relay power and ground wires; and connected the main ground for the auxillary fuse block. I still have to run power to the switches and then get the fuses in the fuse block. Anyways here's a pic, it is prior to running the ground wires.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/Spencerswahoos/Xterra/lightwiring1.jpg

Disregard the blue tape, that is just temporary so I can keep everything straight. I'll do something more permanent for labeling my relays later.

Ok, after a pretty frustrating afternoon and a lot of help Rev over on thenewx.org and Jim from OTRATTW, I finally got my rocker switches powered. I still need to troubleshoot some things with my lighting. As of right now only the auxillary backup lights will work. Here are some pics of the switches.
