Hello all,

I am looking at buying an Xterra S, SE, or OFFROAD in the greater D.C. area, and I have a range of questions that I hope the board can help me with:

1) Does any of the trims (S, SE, or OFFROAD) come with the tow package?

2) What is a typical (and best) dealer price for the different trims? Or, put differently, what did you pay in 2009 or 2010? :-)

3) Has anyone on the board bought from Carmax in White Marsh (new Nissan dealer)? If so, what pricing was possible and were there any issues?

4) Is there any Nissan dealer in the area that is more flexible/easier to work with to buy?

Looking forward to hearing from the board on this.

Best,

pajacobsen

Welcome and good luck on your purchase.

1. I believe the tow package is an option on all trims, http://www.nissanusa.com/xterra/individual-options.html, the factory option will set you back about $500 however if you are handy with a wrench (6 bolt install) you can get by for around $150 for receiver and another $50 to get the Nissan wiring harness to power the light plug.
One caveat about the factory receiver is that it comes with a little plate to mount the trailer plug and the aftermarket receiver I purchased did not have that attached. I simply zip tied the plug up behind my bumper since I don't use the light plug much but it's easy enough to get at when I do.

2. In this economy simply don't look too excited to purchase, make the dealer sell you. Obviously your bargaining power is based on how much financing you'll need but still at the rate dealers are folding, make them treat you like a king.

Can't help you with East coast dealers.
