About two months ago I was hit in a parking lot; it smashed in the front passenger side fender. Ever since then my radio has this buzzing sound to it, and it only happens when the car is on. If I just use the battery there is no noise. I’ve had it in the dealership once and they say they don’t hear it, but I really noticed it today when I was installing my new XM radio. I really would like to fix this problem its annoying. its related to the rpms. The "note" of the "buzz" increase and decrease with the acceleration. I’m guessing that when I was hit on the passenger side the battery side there were some negative ground wires that were also damaged with the impact creating a semi open circuit in the system. How do i get to the Antenna so I can check it?

It only happens when I’m listening to the AM/FM radio, when I’m listening to a CD its not there anymore.

To get to your antenna wire, you need to remove the plastic cowl cover between the hood and windshield. It is just a few clips and a couple of screws.

If you are only getting alternator whine with the radio, and not the cd, I would assume your antenna wire is making contact with a ground source, it probably got sliced a bit in the accident. Or it may have just gotten jarred loose from the back of the head unit and isn't making a good connection there, so maybe pull the head unit and check that the antenna wire is plugged in firmly.

all of the above about removing teh cowl is correct, but go with what anthony suggested first... radio is so much easier to remove, remove ash tray, phillips screwdriver, 2 screws, remove valance, 4 screws, pull out radio :).. thank good nissan keeps it easy for this part... the cowl, you have to remove the arm from the passenger side wiper, undo cover, remove nut, pull off, pull off cowl, install new ant wire first, then attach ant to body... but what u r describing is a ground loop, pinched wires most likely the source since i dont see that you are running any aftermarket gear... so if its snug in the radio, run up to the auto parts store, buy a new antenna, and install...

Ok, pulled out the head unit, every thing was in place. so tomarrow i'll take off the cowl and take a look. Thanks for the help.

just make sure the wire isnt cut or anything. if it is still making the noise then i think there is a isolator or somthing that will reduce the noise... i cant remember what is is called but just call a audio shop and ask they should know
