: Headliner removal
trophybass 03-06-2007, 07:43 PM Hi, i searched but i couldnt seem to find anything pertaining to what i am wanting to know. That being how do i drop the headliner in an 04X? I want to put in a roof mount dvd player that i am taking out of my other vehicle and install it in the X. I added a liquid video 8" player to the roof of my Armada and we're trading it in and getting an X and i want to put it where the dome light is. Does anyone have any directions or info on how to do this, i'm pretty good at this kind of stuff but i dont wanna hurt the Mrs. new X, plus i want to get it done as quick as possible and just skip the whole learning curve. Thanks for any help.
Alex
json3904 03-07-2007, 05:46 PM i have never done it but some friends of mine ave just taken a clothes hanger from where the light is and run it to the side of the truck where the plastic trim is. then tape the wires and pull the hanger through then use the wires from the light for your power and ground. like i said i have never dont it, thats just how i was told to do it........ good luck
trophybass 03-07-2007, 06:18 PM I'm not really scared of the wiring(yet), it's the part of actually mounting it to the headliner, i need to drop it so i can put mounting plate behind it, i need to sandwich the headliner between the player and the plate. On my Armada i literally just screwed it to the compartments that are mounted to the roof, so this time i actually have to do some work, but i guess its not that bad. Thanks, Alex

Anthony 03-07-2007, 09:49 PM Wow, I highly doubt removing the seats is actually necessary.
json3904 03-07-2007, 10:19 PM thats what i thought but i went ahead and posted it anyway. that came out of the nissan service manual..... its no wonder why the stealership wants so much money for any servicing you want done!
rusty_nuts 03-07-2007, 10:45 PM It's one piece. You can lower it but to remove it from vehicle you may have to remove the seats. I haven't replaced one in an Xterra but have in the Maxima and Altima. Had to remove the front seats in both of those.
json3904 03-08-2007, 05:01 AM i didnt think about that good point....
Anthony 03-08-2007, 07:45 AM I would think you could just lower it down and slide it back toward the cargo area, maybe just have to recline the seats a bit.
fatkid_UH-60 03-08-2007, 03:38 PM i agree, it cardboard so you should be able to just bend it slightly.
rusty_nuts 03-08-2007, 05:15 PM They can be bent slightly but if you go too far they will crease and leave some ugly lines. Sounds like he doesn't need remove it to put in a dvd, should be able to just lower it.
trophybass 03-08-2007, 07:58 PM WOW! Thank you guys sooooo much, thats just what i needed. Now what do you think about the wiring? I figue due to the X's size(compared to the Mada) I will pretty much be putting the player where the dome light is but this time i will need to connect my dome lights in the player to the facory dome light wiring this should be pretty straight forward right just match the the door wire and the constant on to each other right? But for the power to the player where should i get it from? Keyed power from the fuse box, or is there a way to get it from the dome light. Thanks, Alex
json3904 03-08-2007, 09:48 PM since the dome light has a constant on, a position where they turn on with the doors open and a off. i think you can just tie it into the wiring of the dome light and just run the rca's or what ever kind of signal wire.... if you have a all in one player just wire it into the dome light and be done with it....
trophybass 03-09-2007, 05:27 AM Yeah, its an all in one player/monitor.
json3904 03-12-2007, 10:17 PM then it should be easy just use the wires from the dome light and your all set
