I have a chance to buy a pretty good XTerra from Southern California. It makes sense since I have stuff there that I still need to move to Florida.

My thought was to buy the car in So Cal, and use my trailer to haul my stuff here to Florida. It's far cheaper than a pod or a Uhaul. The only tradeoff is the wear and tear on the car. Uhauls get worse fuel mileage than Xterras.

Knowing that most Motor Vehicle Departments are not the most organized and coordinated (or clear) fonts of information, I wanted to ask if anyone else has brought a car in from outside of Florida and what it cost them.

According to what I see on the website, it's $250.

In California the license plate is issued with the vehicle and stays with it until it is junked. It seems like this is not the case in Florida. Frankly it looks like a pain in the butt. However, it is what it is. I'm just trying to figure out how much it's going to cost me to get it all done up here with the registration and stuff.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice/info

How much stuff do you need to move?

I own a 5x8 single axel trailer. I got rid of my big furniture and fridge, so I'm mostly moving boxes of clothes, blankets/towels, bathroom stuff, and my kitchen stuff. I think I'm also bringing my patio table and chair set. It all fits comfortably in the 5x8 trailer.

I know the Xterra will pull it no problem because I have seen Xterras pulling trailers just like this one. I also pulled this same trailer with my S10 Blazer and the X and Blazer have similar towing capacity.

I need to use the trailer because I know it all won't fit IN the Xterra and I have to get the trailer back to Florida somehow too.

My question is actually about bringing an out of state vehicle into Florida. The DMV site shows it's $250 for the tag. I am just wondering if this is up to date and what other surprises they'll throw at me. I am all about budgeting.
