I have 265/70/R16 General Grabber tires on my X. This is my daily vehicle. I use it mostly on freways, but occasiaonlly wonder in the woods, sand, and snow. I have few questions.
1 - Should I upgrade or stick with stock tires?
2 - If upgrade is suggested, should i go with LT285/75/R16? They do fit, but does that do to your steering/balancing/uneven wear? Can they cause a damage to the steering components and void the warranty?
3 - I have a selection between GoodYear, Toyo, BFG, Nitto. Nitto comes with 10ply, guys in the shop advised against instlaling 10ply on X as the vehicle is too light for 10ply, it will ride as a wagon on the frreway. 8ply is suggested as accepatble.
4 - 8ply BFG AT of that size runs at $210/tire. Toyo runs 192/tire. I read prevois posting about suggesting BFG tires. I like them, but they appear most expensive. Why BFG? What does BFG have that others do not have?
Please suggest what I should install and why, if any. I tried my stock tires in the deep snow at Mount Hood last night, they performed very well.
